5.0 out of 5 stars Undiscovered GEM June 25, 2006
Format:Audio CD
This guy is such a keeper! I found Feasting With Panthers in a giveaway box of CD's for volunteers at Philadelphia's WXPN radio station. Lucky Strike!!! Then I started buying all his works. The first big surprise listening to him is that he's British. How can a Limey out blues us? Topley sings like he grew up in the Mississippi Delta. He should be singing at New Orleans' JazzFest, he should be on tour. I know I'd go see him!

Sea Fever is more wonderful, rolling, slightly sad, but irrisistably beautiful music. Topley has a voice you'd recognize's rich, it howls, it growls. He's just plain good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Singer March 19, 2008
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I heard William Topley sing on an internet radio site and was immediately attracted to his voice. I have been very pleased to find that this album did not disappoint me. He has one of those beautiful, rich and soulful voices that you seldom hear. The songs on the album are very good too. With so many uninspiting male pop singers out there, he is a revelation. You know when you hear him sing that this is a guy that really knows how to sing. Most male singers only wish they could sound like him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sea Fever success April 4, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Received the Sea Fever cd with a broken jewel plastic case, luckily there was no visual or actual damage to the cd, so it plays fine, had to replace the broken case with a new one, simple fix. Took quite some time to receive, but understandable as it comes from Europe. Great customer service from the sender, cd came with a thank you card, and she also informed during the wait as too why it was taking longer than normal shipping inside the continental 48 US states.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly grew on me with each listening... October 22, 2010
Format:Audio CD
I had never heard of Mr. Topley. At nearly 66, I am out of the loop on contemporary performers. Most of my music listening is to stuff recorded 80 years ago (Paul Robeson, Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers) to 50 years ago (great Broadway musicals, Buddy Holly, etc.) Every once in awhile I fall at least mildly for a 21st-century artist (Todd Snider, Diana Krall, Michael Buble.) Well, first time through Mr. Topley's disc, which I found in a music store bargain bin for 25 cents, it was just interesting enough to rate closer attention. Second listening, I found four tracks I really like. Third time through, I began to enjoy two more quite a bit. As another reviewer said, I'm surprised he is British, and impressed with his distinctive vocals. Not everything on "Sea Fever" works for me, but enough does to justify keeping him on my shelf instead of donating the CD to my next garage sale. If I were to find some of his other releases in bargain bins, I'd go a lot higher than a quarter to add them to my collection. He's different, and quirky, and a nice discovery.
