5.0 out of 5 stars A Few Good Men by Cat Johnson, August 7, 2007
This review is from: A Few Good Men (Paperback)
How do you imagine an erotic romance writer? Sexy, gorgeous and uninhibited? Or better plain jane type, petite and single? Maybe the answer is simple cause a bombshell can't have the time to write romance and instead plain jane yes, so Maureen, our heroine, is a white collar by day and a writer by night. She has also a tender heart and a pen pal, a soldier stationed in Iraq. She writes to him and sends him gifts and goodies and also her latest book: a romance only for women but Jazzy, the soldier, reads it and likes it and passes it to his mates. And Maureen, better Summer, her pen name, becames a legend among the men. John, Jazzy's boss, images her like an old granny with kinky thought. But then he has to write her about an accident occurs to Jazzy and they start a steamy online relationship. An ocean and a war separate them, but hope never dies...

This is the "classic" romance: Maureen is sweet and a dreamer, she dreams the perfect man. She is maybe like a lot of modern women, charming but not stunning, clever but not a genius, nice but not overwhelming... in other words she is the typical woman that you must have the time to appreciate, a quick date of a night is not enough. John is not a man of strong passion: oh, he is passionate, when he decides that he has found the right woman, but she has to be THE RIGHT one. But he is somewhat the last romantic on earth: he can fall in love without never meeting his lover.

Another "classical" side of the romance is the "crescendo" plot: the love between the two characters starts fast in the beginning of the book to grow slowly afterwards till the hot happily ever after ending; a right dose of "hot" candy in the middle maintain hight the attention of the reader, but not fully satiate him till the end.

This is a book that appeals to who wants to read about sweet romance and good feelings, who believes in the happy end and in the true love, and maybe who has an old fashioned way of think.

5.0 out of 5 stars this story is full of red-hot passion and fascinating characters that are sure to earn Cat Johnson many, July 21, 2007
This review is from: A Few Good Men (Paperback)
Staff Sergeant John Blake doesn't have much of a personal life. Being deployed in Iraq doesn't give much opportunity to socialize with women, unless it's with a pen pal and he just doesn't have time or the interest to be bothered with going that route. He knows his friend and fellow soldier, Jazzy, has an erotic romance author for a pen pal that he met through a military support website. He's baffled by Jazzy's excitement over this pen pal, after all, she can only be a little old granny type. It just isn't possible that a young, attractive woman would want to correspond with a solider. John gets through his days by sheer determination, a lot of caffeine and his dedication to his job. He's not looking for romance, or even a woman to converse with - until he unwittingly begins corresponding with Summer Winters.

Erotic Romance author Maureen Mullen, a.k.a. Summer Winters, hasn't had the best of luck finding decent men to date. In fact the best men she's met lately are stationed overseas. Her gay friend, Peter, gives her a bad time about her lack of dates and her obsession with soldiers and they agree to go on a series of double dates, each week they'll embark on a date with what seems to be a never-ending stream of losers. Meanwhile she continues to email with her soldier pen pals and finds herself falling for a certain Staff Sergeant John Blake.

John and Summer would never have begun corresponding if it hadn't been for Jazzy being injured in the line of duty. He convinces John that he has to email Summer and reassure her that he's alive. Even though John didn't think he needed or wanted a pen pal he finds himself obsessing over Summer. Over time their emails turn heated and they find themselves wishing for a future together. Is there any hope for a hardcore military man and a love hungry romance author to build a life together or is their cyber relationship going to be all that they'll share?

Cat Johnson has won over many hearts with her wonderful stories about military men and the women who love them. A FEW GOOD MEN continues her wonderful heartfelt military theme and adds another exciting aspect with Summer and her horrible dating experience which she writes about in her blog. I loved getting to know the characters in this story and `watching' as John and Summer's relationship develops. Even the secondary characters will keep you riveted to the pages and as a special bonus, Ms. Johnson even treats us to some more of the wonderful Special Task Force Zeta men we loved from her previous military stories. All in all, this is a story full of red-hot passion, fascinating characters and thrilling situations that are sure to earn Cat Johnson many new fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Few Good Men, June 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Few Good Men (Paperback)
I can't stand too much erotic love scene, why I read this book is based on the previous 3 book reviews in Amazon, it is worth for a trial.

AFGM is a funny, steamy and sweet romance fiction, the story plot is quite interesting, though it is like a fairy tale to me. In reality I don't think only through email can develop a stable and lifelong relationship, however it also tell us how lonely we are.

It is a fast reading and well written romance book, the only shortage is it is too short, only around 200 pages. I do understand it is mainly sold as e-book, as I have read it as e-book format, however I will order a hard copy version from Amazon with my next purchase order, It is worth to keep a hard copy on hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Few Good Men, September 11, 2007
This review is from: A Few Good Men (Paperback)
Maureen Mullen is in a job she hates and is in pursuit of the last deviant man on earth. She is totally convinced that all men are either married or gay. Case in point her best friend Peter - gay, her military pen pal Jazzy - married, what is a girl to do. She is living a secret life though, she has just written and published a highly erotic romance story that the guys in Jazzy's platoon are calling porn with a plot.

One day when Jazzy is hurt he finally convinces his Staff Sergeant to write to Summer (aka Maureen) to tell her that he is ok. Well one thing leads to another and suddenly John is looking forward to reading Summer's emails and even finds himself thinking about her at the oddest times.

Maureen is serial dating with her friend Peter. They each have to find a straight guy (for her) and gay guy (for him) so they can double date. After the first disastrous date she decides to add a blog to her Summer Winter's page, which becomes all the rage. Though in her heart has she really found the man for her, but just hasn't met him face to face?

A Few Good Men is one of the better military based romances I have read in a while. The author has taken great pains to include the danger, as well as some of the workings about living in a war zone. Hats off to you Cat Johnson. I thoroughly loved the banter between Maureen and Peter and how John is eventually drawn into Maureen's life. A Few Good Men made me want more stories about Task Force Zeta and reminds me of Suzanne Brockman's Navy Seals.
