Book Description

September 30, 2008
This is the second of a series of volumes of informal chronicles of the U.S. Marine Corps in the 20th Century. The genre is fiction but the reader should be aware that many of the episodes could have happened and maybe they did. A different view of the of the Marine Corps and the characters who populated its ranks is shown. It is hoped that the reader will become acquainted with the Marine Corps that many of us knew and loved. Sadly, many of those days and characters are gone forever but their memory is preserved here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absorbing and thoroughly enjoyable, November 11, 2008
This review is from: A Few More Marines (Paperback)
As with his first book in this series, A Few Marines, author Wes Hammond's A Few More Marines sweeps the reader along through often unfamiliar currents and eddies of Marine Corps legend and lore. An adroit blend of personal recollections and meticulous historical research, A Few More Marines is the absorbing and thoroughly enjoyable examination of people and events which shaped the USMC during the last century. Humorous, exciting, often heartbreaking, Hammond, a distinguished Marine, extracts the essence of our Corps with a lively march of heroes and rogues, triumphs and blunders, wisdom and "lubberly-ness;" all chronicled with absolute candor and a faithfulness plucked straight from the Marine Corps motto.

Above all, A Few More Marines is an affirmation of the uncompromising code of personal integrity which has made our Corps great. As a former Marine, it reminded me of how proud I am to have earned the privilege of wearing the same uniform as such audacious, steadfast, and honor-bound professionals. Semper fi!
