Heaven is here, June 12, 2006
This review is from: Fi-Fi Goes to Heaven (Audio CD)
Don't care about the "name"; that's not a lament for Brackeen's dog only, but a call for (musical) heaven also. One of the "piano giants" of our time meets a "dream team" and they play a great track list consisting of beatiful standards and challenging originals.
Have you ever dreamed such a team before? Terence Blanchard on trumpet, Branford Marsalis on tenor and soprano saxophones, Cecil McBee on bass and Al Foster on drums.
They show how jazz standards would be played in a perfect interplay. Besides, Brackeen's originals (especially "estilo magnifico" and "dr. chang") show how some avante-garde songs would be so nice.
Welcome cats, fi-fi is here, but don't panic, heaven is also here...

Please get a decent piano, May 12, 2010
This review is from: Fi-Fi Goes to Heaven (Audio CD)
The beautiful playing is marred by an out-of-tune piano with half the dampers not working. The studio should hang its head in shame. Joan, do yourself a favour, you deserve better!
