A very effective way to add fiber to our diet
on January 15, 2013
My wife and I are on a weight management plan, trying to maintain the weight loss we achieved over the past year. Our doctor recommended increasing the amount of fiber in our diet, which we have done by consuming more fresh fruit and vegetables, but we wanted to supplement that amount. We had seen an ad for Fiber Choice tablets, so we bought a bottle at the supermarket. (At the time, Amazon listed the product, but it was a pre-order only. Later, we began ordering the tablets from Amazon, since they were less expensive.)
We've had good results so far. We've maintained our weight, and I attribute that in part to the Fiber Choice. We each take three tablets a day, and we love the strawberry flavor. (The manufacturer recommends not exceeding five tablets a day.) The first couple of days taking the tablets, I experienced slightly loose bowels, but that passed by the third day. It may have only been coincidence, since my wife was not similarly affected.
The recommended serving size is two tablets. The fiber in the tablets is inulin, a soluble fiber found in many plants. Each serving of two tablets contains three grams of inulin. Other ingredients listed on the label are sorbitol, chromium picolinate, citric acid, magnesium stearate, and green tea powder. Each serving of two tablets contains 15 calories, all from carbohydrates.
The bottle's label mentions that the tablets contain "prebiotic fiber." On the back of the bottle is the explanation that prebiotic fiber "nourishes the friendly, good bacteria that live in your digestive system."
I believe the Fiber Choice is a small but significant factor in our successful weight management plan, as well as having other health benefits.
