THE FIBROID BOOK is a refernce book for women interested in the issue of fibroid tumors of the uterus. Its chapters desribe what a fibroid is, who is affected by it, the public health impact and treatment options both medicinal and surgical. Manifestations and options are discussed in the context of the major phases of a woman's life with treatment rationale bsed on the life issues at these varous stages. Numerous case histories are presented to elucidate both clinical problems and their solutions. It is an extremely useful source of information to prepare a woman for a gynecologic consultation as well as a supplement to any consutation on fibroid tumors of the uterus --

About the Author
Francis L. Hutchins, Jr., MD, is a gynecologist who has specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of uterine fibroids for over 20 years. He is founder and president of The Hutchins Institute for Women's Health in suburban Philadephia. He has pioneered uterine artery embolization in the US and through the institute has performed the largest number of these procedures in the world. He has been on the faculty of four different medical schools and currently holds the rank of clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pa. He has published numerous scientific articles and has contributed chapters to multiple medical books. He has been featured on the national TV show 20/20 as well as numerous other TV and radio programs for his pioneering work in avoiding hysterectomy in the treatment of diseases of the uterus. He is a frequent invited visiting professor at medical schools and hospitals to lecture on the topic of uterine fibroids. He routinely is an invited faculty member on post graduate educational programs for gynecologists in this country and abroad.
