I bought this product to preserve my leather products. It works very well. It cleans without scratching. It also provides a nice gloss on black leather when its done. 3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings on this product
I bought this after some research on restoring my old Harley saddlebags. Overall, as a soap goes, it did clean the leather. I followed the instructions, and it did pretty good on the leather. The problem I have with it has more to do with the stitching. When used, this soap forms a lather. I used the proper sponge to work the soap into the leather. A residue forms...

I bought this product to preserve my leather products. It works very well. It cleans without scratching. It also provides a nice gloss on black leather when its done. Saddle soap is a yellow substance which becomes prominent when brushed across the seams (especially on my black Clark's) but you just keep working it in, and then it just goes away. Saddke soap is my favorite product to clean leather-and it's less oily than leather honey (which I still use from time to time to make the leather continuously supple). Leather honey and this product are a must for anyone who owns leather. They'll make your leather go 10X as long. Pretty worth it for the nominal price.

Uses: belts, jackets, my leather chair, shoes.

Oh, and it lasts forever because you don't have to use a lot. I've had this for 3 months and it hardly looks used.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Soap for Leather, January 10, 2011

It is pretty good soap for leather cleaning. It will let you feel safe to put it on leather unlike using regular soap or dish washing detergent. It shines the leather a little but it is not really for leather softening or restoration. You really need to use leather oil after cleaning with this product.

Use this to clean the salt off my leather boots after walking around nyc in the winter. Very happy and would buy again, but with this quantity I don't think I'll ever have to buy saddle soap again!

If you own leather goods you know they also need care! Maybe your kids are into baseball now, and have a mitt that needs breaking in. Saddlesoap is what we used to soften and break in gloves, but it is also used to help clean your leather. On some items I would not use saddlesoap, be carefull with faux leather items.

I use this great product for cleaning / restoring the leatherette on 100+ year-old, folding cameras and leather camera cases! Many of the items that I acquire have leather that is very dry and brittle. A gentle 2-3 applications of this saddle soap restores strength and flexibility in the old leathers. I usually follow up with a light application of Fiebings Mink Oil paste. Great Products... would not trust anything else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Liven up your shoes again, or your saddle too, I guess, February 3, 2011

Many of my 25 pairs of shoes are more than 15 years old and the reason they stay ship-shape is 1) Shoe trees; and, 2)an excellent cleaning soap like the legendary Fiebings. I've used treatments by Hermes and Connolly Hide Food, but there is no saddle soap I've seen as excellent at this one. I actually thought Fiebings had gone out of business, it'd been so long since I'd seen their products. What a grand surprise to find them again on Amazon and at a bargain price to boot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for shoes!, December 6, 2011

I bought this because I heard it works well for leather cleaning. Well it does. I spilled a spoonful of Italian dressing on the toe of a nice tan leather shoe. It left a nasty oil spot larger than a quarter. Thought the shoes might be ruined. These were not cheap shoes. The leather was very delicate. Anyway, the oil stain sat for a week while I waited for the saddle soap to arrive. In the meantime tried to clean them using other methods. Nothing worked. Finally the saddle soap arrived. I had no idea if it'd work. Sure enough, a little scrubbing and some polish. The stain was completely erased. The container is big. Unless I buy a saddle, I'll probably have a lifetime supply. Good stuff.

I cleaned a pair of 3 year old hiking boots with this stuff, and they look great. They have not been well taken care of in the past and this cleaned them right up.

4.0 out of 5 stars savior of boots!, December 13, 2011
This review is from: Fiebing Company Inc 12OZ 12OZ Paste Saddle Soap
I got brand new light-brown leather boots and couldn't wait to wear them... so I didn't. I wore them to a house party. Before I waterproofed them. The next morning I awoke to find splashes of beer and cider on my boots. Needless to say, I spent the morning looking for the right product to clean them up.

The stains sat for 3 days while I waited for the Saddle Soap to arrive. I used a sponge meant for polishing shoes, and after an hour and a half of obsessively careful cleaning, my boots are saved! The water marks are gone, the drips and splashes are gone except for a couple of minor little spots. Even better, it made my boots a richer version of their own selves (very very minor darkening). I like them better now that I've cleaned them than when they were fresh out of the box!

If I could post my before and after pictures, I would. I was very impressed by this product! The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is that the yellow foam gets stuck in the seams (a bit of a hassle) and it didn't remove every imperfection.
