This review is from: Field Guide to Chicago Hauntings (Haunted Field Guide) (Paperback)
I have been looking for a simple guide to get me around the Chicagoland area, well this is definitely it. This book is simple to use, and provides easy directions to the haunted locations. I found the maps a great asset to help me get around Chicago. The book describes the location, and the event that is happening there. Ever wonder how to get to Bachelors Grove cemetery? Monk's Castle? Wonder if anyone famous is buried or anything unusal happening at some cemetery? Take this Field Guide with you when your out on the town, and who knows what you may encounter.

Excellent Field Guide,

This book is a must for any person living or visting Chicago in search of Ghosts or the paranormal. The author is a real-life ghost researcher for the group that was featured on Discovery Channel's "Real Ghosthunters." The book explains what is going at a specific location, gives you directions on how to get there, and even includes a map. This book is a dream come true for any paranormal investigator! Anyone looking for Bachelors Grove Cemetery or Resurrection Mary? Monk's castle? Then you need to pick this up and read the book. It's a great book that I am glad to have purchased. Many locations that are hard to locate are made easy with this book. Excellent!!

Nice Series,
This review is from: Field Guide to Chicago Hauntings (Paperback)
I found this series of books to be very helpful for those of us in the paranormal field. I enjoy having enough information to get me to the location without getting lost and then having enough information at my fingertips to recall why I am in this area. Most of the books I have read are pretty vague on a exact gravesites, but not this book! Jim Graczyk had a great concept when he started this series of books and I always look for further editions in the series. If your looking for a guide to bring out in the field with you, toss this book in the glovebox or your bag, you'll appreciate you did!

Terrible,

This review is from: Field Guide to Chicago Hauntings (Paperback)
First of all, this book should be retitled to "Field Guide to Chicago Hauntings and Disasters". Many of the stories told in the book conclude by stating that there are no strange happenings or hauntings associated with the sites or events described. If this is a field guide to hauntings, why are these stories even in the book? To fill space? And second, I couldn't even finish the book because the editing is so poor. It was difficult and sometimes painful to read at times. The text is full of improper grammer, missing punctuation, fragments and run-on sentences. Many of the sentences just plain don't make any sense! You will find things like "the women is", "a women was", "you be driving" or "you be coming upon" sprinkled all over the place. I was shocked to read on the About the Author page that the author plans on becoming a teacher! One only hopes he will not be an English teacher.
Oh, and by the way, there is nothing mysterious to the Showmen's Rest plot in Forest Park's Woodlawn Cemetery. It was proved a long time ago that the circus animal sounds heard were not of an unearthy nature but rather coming from Brookfield Zoo, which is located about a mile south and a few blocks west of the cemetery. I'm sorry, but I can't recommend wasting your money here. There are far better regional & local books to be found. All the ones I would recommend are (ironically) named in this book. |
