Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

He used to be King, but now he's more like God--at least to the legions of devout and devoted who wish to visit and revel in the vibes of every site that's even remotely related to Elvis. From Graceland and Sun Studios, where he lived and worked, to Sierra Sid's Union 76 truck stop in Sparks, Nevada, which preserves Elvis's guns, jewelry, and 104 of his gold records, Yenne guides the faithful to a variety of Elvis shrines. It's all here, including Tupelo, Mississippi, and the Deep South; Memphis, Tennessee, and Texas; plus the North, the West, Hawaii, and even Elvis's home in Bad Nauheim, Germany; the Hotel Prince de Galles, where Elvis stayed in Paris; and the Hound Dog Hole, a cafe in the U.S. Embassy in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where his personal German kitchen was sent after the Friedberg army unit was demobilized in 1994. Yenne's comprehensive research will satisfy the most faithful Elvis apostles. --Stephanie Gold

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of current information for a good price, August 30, 2000

This review is from: Field Guide To Elvis Shrines (Paperback)
There was a older book called TRAVELS WITH ELVIS (also called ROADSIDE ELVIS) that covered the same ground. THE FIELD GUIDE... is decently priced, has original photos and maps, and is obviously very up-to-date. Overall, the book doesn't seem to have much personality -- it is literally a guide. I can't speak for any section other than the California one, but that section doesn't really offer any terrific new "shrines" but covers the same old information - the house where Elvis met the Beatles, Parmount, Fox, Pan Pacific, etc.
