Great book. Great idea, to use the 1960s tactics of the left, on the left. The authors went to lefty parades and brought signs that said stuff like "War Never Solved Anything - Except winning World War I, the Civil War, and beating Fascism". Or having a placard at an anti-war demo, showing Kurds gassed by Saddam, with the text that reads "Yep, no WMDs here !". Brilliant. My personal favorite is the one proclaiming to be in favor of pacifism and non-violence, unless of course, the guy holding the machine gun is a 'romantic' lefty guerilla, like Che Guevara. The hypocrisy of the radical left is clearly exposed. I remember the crappy lefty demos from college: tenured private college professors (who live off the capitalist dime) travelling down to Nicaragua to do "coffee picking solidarity" with communist farmers. A teacher who wore a Mao suit in class(I am not making that up). "Smoke Ins" at the capital in Madison (Wisconsin), involving aging hippies lighting up marijuana, while the Wisconsin state patrol looked on. Let's face it, the Left is almost a parody of itself these days. Someone made the point that soon some lefty author will come out with an 'original' book called "Field Guide to Right-Wing Wackos". And there are a lot of them too. They also would be easy to make fun of (the libertarian nut jobs, the guys who think bazookas and full-auto machine guns shouldn't be regulated, the Christian Right, spouting on about the "End Times" and Satan, etc, etc.). The only difference is, the Right doesn't parade itself out in public the way the Left does. You find the Right in their living rooms, or at the gun range, or in Church. You don't find them blocking traffic with Martin Sheen or Sean Penn. Thus, the "field guide" won't work as well for the Right.

A truthful yet humorously delightful guide on surviving a left-wing society,

I just received this book today and was so enticed and overwhelmed by this book and its light-hearted yet hard-hitting ways of how to identify the really insane leftist wackos that plague society today.
A true pick-up for any conservative (young or old) who wants the nitty gritty about what to look out for in societies of left-wing overrule while not being disgusted or choked up in the end.

This is an excellent resource for those who may have trouble picking left-wing wackos out of a crowd. From Acid Freaks to Hollywood Acivists, you'll never again wonder if someone's from the loony left or just plain crazy. With this book, you'll know they're both!

I have to share my own personal story with this book...
I had just started on the first chapter, which deals with Anarchists (Anarchist wannabes, actually) and I turned on the news as I got ready to report to work. Canadian TV was on and had a story about a Starbucks which had blown up in Vancouver. I flipped open the book. It mentioned Starbucks being the number one target of Anarchists. I looked back at the screen. They were interviewing the only witness, who said he saw a guy all dressed in black running from the scene. Back to the book: Anarchists prefer to dress in black. Back to the TV: police said the main clue they had was a balaclava which had been discarded at the scene of the crime. The book: see figure 1.2. I laughed out loud. Already I had identified my first leftist even though the news program never suggested the crime had been committed by an anarchist wannabe. This is a funny book. Worth it just for the sign examples in the appendix!

This book had me laughing out loud and is spot on! It is not only well researched but the authors' own experience to gain their perspectives is really admirable. They went to the belly of the beast!

From the front lines of the battle between Western Civilization and the loopy far left comes this on target review of the crazies who protest at the drop of a hat, or in some cases, the dropping of acid. Learn the difference between a Communist, a Granola and a so-call "peace mom."
More importantly, learn how to deal with them.

An interesting and funny read. Some factual errors though. The most glaring one is on page 41. Kaczynski did graduate from Harvard in 1962. He then received a master's degree and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Michigan and went on to teach at the same school.I think Kaczynski was a Luddite and obviously advocated primitivism but his views were a lot more apolitical than in classic Luddism.
I was interested in the motivation behind Chapter 18 (Employed White Males). This character was depicted as the American ideal and the voice of reason which I did not necessarily agree with but I understand the humor. There are a lot of nuts on the right too. Maybe this will be inspiration for a taxonomy of right wing wackos.

This book is absolutely phenomenal. It skewers just about every type of lefty reprobate that pollutes American political discourse. With that being said, I feel they left out two important groups of protesters:
Hispactivists/Mexivists: The Pro-Hispanic racists of La Raza and/or MEChA open-border types who believe in La Reconquista of the American Southwest as espoused by (among others) Mexican intellectual Carlos Fuentes. Their chants include but are not limited to: "No cruzamos la frontera, la frontera nos cruzo!"/"We didn't cross the border, the border crossed us!" They are to Hispanics and Latinos what Blacktivists are to African-Americans. Phony Asians: While rare (Asians tend to be the 'model minority'), they tend to congregate around such causes as "Independence for Hawaii/Justice for Native Hawaiians" or protesting the Yellow subway line in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia, in early February of 2010. If the boys of ProtestWarrior make a second edition (revised paperback edition?), they would need to add these two species to the already impressive field guide. Also, color pictures would be a nice touch.

WOW! What a masterpiece.... well thought out, beautifully written.
This is the definitive work that lays out the taxonomy of the Socialist Liberal animals as the dangerous species that they are.... I liken this work to a biology textbook with taxonomies of animal species. Just as you might need your jungle animal field guide on an African expedition, you will definitely need this field guide as a Conservative who needs to navigate downtown New York to get the grocery store. This comedic book highlights the insane and diluted thinking of liberal protestors. Thank you Protest Warrior, keep the heat on those protestors by firing your Patriot Truth Missiles into their irrational thinking. |
