A great field guide to a challenging genus, January 7, 2009
This review is from: Field Guide to Wisconsin Sedges: An Introduction to the Genus Carex (Cyperaceae) (Paperback)
I love my Field Guide to Wisconsin Sedges!
Most wildflower guides to not include sedges, and as a result many wildflower enthusiasts never learn the members of this group. Hopefully this book will change that. It provides dichotomous keys to 157 species and beautiful color illustrations (along with detailed descriptions of key characters, habitats, and similar species) for 70 species. There is also an atlas in the appendix with maps showing known locations for each of the 157 species in Wisconsin.
If you live in or visit Wisconsin and are eager to learn some sedges but have been intimidated by the sheer diversity of this group, I recommend this book. The sedges are still a challenging group for me, but with this book they seem a little less intimidating now.
