I hate to say it, if only some very geeky rockist somewhere will take offense, but Comets on Fire are what Hawkwind aspired to. This is the most scary cannibal hippy music you can imagine. Pointless effects, eyeball exploding feedback, sick inducing arches of squealing freakout. Goddamn, I say goddamn. In other words, it rocks harder than any of you MFers.
GODDAMN!

whoa, this is a brutal concoction of overly-ambitious rock "stuff" that delivers! comets on fire play a new kind of rnr that sounds old-inspired but is so skull-peeling that it's like nothing else happening these days (sans the acid mothers, high rise, etc. momentary comparisons). plus it features sir noel harmonson tweaking the knobs of echo units and oscillators over the entire mess! holy sh@t! you've got to check this out.

If you purchase this slice of mad genius, I guarantee you will experience the following symptoms. Pure adrenalin screams out of the speakers. The most out of control sound erupts all around you. A sonic fireworks display going off for a while. A mellow moment appears and is eaten alive by feedback. Then they REALLY get crazy for the last two songs. Amazing energetic rawk power. Forget those guys on MTV. Forget that one underground group you like cuz your friend is in it. Comets own you.

This band is simply great the music it's surprisingly fresh and each tune dictictive and truly progressive.
Do yourself a favour and by this on faith alone...their Blue Cathedral recording is pretty special too.

... well, this is an entire record of unbelievably balls-out the sun-is-exploding sonic mayhem a la that too seldom repeated explosion in Like Herod by Mogwai. If that makes sense to you, then I bet you already own the record; if it doesn't make sense to you, you might not be ready for this. It's that kind of a world (b/w) with this record. It's goddamn ferocious.

Now I gotta write a review for this Comets on Fire album just because there are so few freakin' reviews! Hopefully the higher-profile (and equally mindblowing) Blue Cathdral album out on Sub Pop will bring these cats the high profile they deserve. In a perfect world, these guys would be the new Beatles. Unrelenting and beautiful. I really hope a million people are onto Comets and most of them just don't kill time by writing reviews for Amazon, because trust me, you NEED to get into this band nowwwwww.
