Editorial Reviews

Review

Praise for authors' previous book, Haunted Baseball:

“Like a pair of ‘ghost busters,’ Gordon and Bradley have mined a rich underground of bizarre and often unexplainable tales to liven up our reading.” —Library Journal

“…a must read for fans of baseball and ghosts.” —Chronogram Magazine

“…contains a wealth of anecdotes that have never been told…an entertaining and eerie look at our national pastime.” —Society for American Baseball Research

“Authors Mickey Bradley and Dan Gordon talked to seemingly every Yankee alive about all the ones who aren't, and how they hang around the stadium, lending ectoplasmic assistance.” —New York Sun

“The book raises some interesting questions. Just don’t read it in an old hotel room.” —Tampa Tribune

“… a catalog of haunted clubhouses and ghostly outfields … keep[s] baseball’s legacy of weirdness alive.” —Rocky Mountain News

“… has the supernatural bases covered.”—Boston Herald

“The stories are so diverse and so spread out over time you realize that you are not dealing with crop circles or the furry trout—these are not hoaxes or urban legends, but stories with actual substance to them…. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, you will walk away from the book with a new appreciation of baseball history.”—The Sports Review

From the Back Cover

From the authors of the popular Haunted Baseball comes this all-new collection of spooky stories from ballplayers, stadium personnel, umpires, front-office staff, and fans, exploring the sometimes amusing and often eerie connection between baseball and the paranormal. The haunting of  Yankee Stadium, the ghost of Babe Ruth, and inexplicable encounters at the Hall of Fame are among the many tales herein. While spotlighting numerous major league teams, Field of Screams also includes minor league ballparks, hotels, and baseball memorabilia, and concludes with a look at major league pranks that players indulge in to spook one another.

Featuring Major Leaguers Like:
Torii Hunter: “People say when you go in [Yankee Stadium] you just have this chill that you’re going to lose. Like the ghosts are whispering in your ear the whole time you’re walking to the clubhouse, to the dugout, on the field.”

Tim Lincecum: “I’m not answering that door!  If it’s a ghost or a real person, I’m not answering it!”

Roy Halladay: “I don’t know what it was, but I called the front desk to change rooms.”

Adrian Beltre: “It was haunted, man. I’m dead serious. I was real scared.”

When you are looking for the weird, FACTUAL, and unusual about baseball's odd and supernatural history look no further than the work of Mickey Bradley. SImply put, as a baseball historian - if I want color, texture and stories that bounce off the page - I seek out both of his books; Haunted Baseball and his newest entry - Field of Screams. Enjoy these books but know that they are well researched and worth your time and money.

Dan Gordon & Mickey Bradley have hit another home run with this captivating collection of Baseball superstitions and ghost stories. All who love the game's rich history and lore - skeptics & believers alike - will treasure the amazing breadth and depth of it's phenomenal research, including it's many interviews with some of the world's top ballplayers.

Superbly written and informative throughout, "Field of Screams" is replete with always spirited and often humorous accounts and anecdotes from around the globe - from Fenway to LA, from Catalina to the Caribbean, from Latin America to Japan. With hundreds of fascinating legends, locations, and characters from prehistoric times to the present - ranging from ancient Native American burial grounds in Florida, to Ty Cobb's running the bases at CoAmerica Park - it's a uniquely fun ride through Baseball history!

And, for Babe Ruth fans, like myself, there is no better compendium of the Big Bambino's haunts anywhere. From the hallowed grounds of Old Yankee Stadium, to the speakeasies of St. Petersburg, and beyond, 'Close Encounters of the No. 3 Kind,' as they could be called, are all documented in detail in this great new book.

I ordered this book due to the fact that I love hauntings and baseball! This book has names, great situations and different places that are haunted. This book made me smile and surprised at some of the baseball players were touched by something paranormal. I enjoyed this book, but I can see that this book would not be for everybody, but I liked it!
