More of the Great Hayden,
By Tebes "Buchlieber" (Niagara Region, ON) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Field & Town (Audio CD)
I picked this album up in Vancouver. Hopefully the price will be reasonable for American listeners. It's a great album, quintessential Hayden but should be priced in the same range of his other discs. This album is great, purely in the fact that it is fun to listen to. There are some "relationship" songs but the big draw here is Hayden's craftsmanship. I have listened to most of his albums and each one of them is unique in their own way. He doesn't repeat himself musically. He consistently tries out new melodies, expanding his sound while retaining his style - which I think is remarkable and rare amongst the majority of recording artists in the industry today. The best way to obviously experience Hayden is live. His songs are rarely unaccompanied by his humorous stories and takes on life. You're always smiling at his shows. If Hayden is coming your way, by all means, get tickets. His musicianship reminds me of the folk singers of the sixties, there is a great earthiness to his presence, a compelling modesty and tenderness, all of which shows up in his studio work. His music is an eccentric treasure to behold, highly accessible and very fun, very human.

Hayden Doesn't Do Bad Music!!!,
By
This review is from: In Field & Town (Dig) (Audio CD)
If you're into good music and terrific songwriting, you can't go wrong with any of Hayden's CDs. I've been a huge fan of his for over 10 years now and he keeps impressing me. I will say that it took me a bit longer to attach myself at the hip with this release even though it's the only Hayden CD I have a signed copy of. For whatever reason, it didn't strike me the way Hayden's other discs did. But it's very safe to say that I kept at it and fell in love with Hayden's music all over again. A very nice experience.Another reviewer had said to see him live. That would be my suggestion as well. Hayden puts on great shows and does not disappoint. In Field & Town should rank up there with EILF, but we Hayden fans tend to hold that record on a pedestal.

If you are a fan of Hayden, then this album will not disappoint you. It is a great album and a worthy addition to your Hayden catalog. If you are new to Hayden, then I would recommend starting with "The Closer I Get" or "Elk-Lake Serenade." I also recommend checking out "'capo my heart' and other bear songs" by Lucinda Black Bear.
