1.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced for an electronic copy. September 4, 2014
By Tombo
This is grossly overpriced when you consider the paperback edition is the exact same price. Not to mention, the previous edition was provided online, by the BSA, for FREE!!! It was even provided as a free download in PDF format. I have to say "I hate this" as I can't help but to think that this is gouging. The paperback version is certainly worth the $19.99 however the ebook is only worth about $5 once you account for the fact that there are no publishing, shipping, nor warehousing costs. I would much rather pay $25 and get a free electronic copy with the physical book.

It is not acceptable to charge as much for an ebook as for the paper version. Shame on you BSA for price gouging. That is not helpful, friendly, courteous, kind or thrifty.

It is an easy read and full of tips and techniques for planning for and carrying out all types of outdoor adventures. Safety is paramount, and needs to be a part of all planning and executing.

I recommend this not only to all Boy Scouts and families, but to the other youth activities involved with planning and executing outdoor adventures.

Don't like the format on my Windows phone Kindle. It doesn't appear like the printed page. It appears as type and then the pictures show up. I going to get the hard copy. Nice idea but execution.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money June 15, 2014

The BSA Fieldbook has been a standard for scouters and other outdoor enthusiasts for many years. This represents a much needed update to reflect current thought and practices. In general, if you are a well versed and experienced camper/hiker/high adventure kind you most likely won't find anything new here. But, it is an excellent review, a fantastic reference, a really good " textbook" for those wishing to learn more about some aspect of " being out in the field." Am I going to say if is an essential tool to carry on any trip? Goodness no! Not worth the weight. Is it a great book to give as a gift? To just simply bro use through and read at home or at base camp? Oh yes. I particulary like that it is available on Kindle. When working with my scouts, I can pull up on my I-pad and quickly skim before we go over some topic. The boys think I am a fountain of knowledge. With this reference, I am.

Bought for my husband who has a new tablet and is in Scouts with my son. He loves it. Easy to use and great price.
