The BSA Fieldbook has been a standard for scouters and other outdoor enthusiasts for many years. This represents a much needed update to reflect current thought and practices. In general, if you are a well versed and experienced camper/hiker/high adventure kind you most likely won't find anything new here. But, it is an excellent review, a fantastic reference, a really good " textbook" for those wishing to learn more about some aspect of " being out in the field." Am I going to say if is an essential tool to carry on any trip? Goodness no! Not worth the weight. Is it a great book to give as a gift? To just simply bro use through and read at home or at base camp? Oh yes. I particulary like that it is available on Kindle. When working with my scouts, I can pull up on my I-pad and quickly skim before we go over some topic. The boys think I am a fountain of knowledge. With this reference, I am.
