5.0 out of 5 stars A great start to RV life, June 4, 2004
This review is from: Fielding's Freewheelin' USA: Everything You Need to Plan Your Next Open Road Adventure (Fielding Experienced Travel Guides) (Paperback)
Author of DISCOVER AMERICA DIARIES: 50 STATES, 50 STATES OF MIND

This is a fun, easy-to-read book that covers just about everything--from RV personality tests (we discovered we're "Garbo Gourmets") to one-pot dinner recipes--all in a tidy compact paperback. The book begins with a chapter on the history of RVing, aka, "The Tin Can Tourists,'" followed by chapters on the ABCs of RVs, as well as the pro's and cons of renting versus buying. The book also details RV lifestyles, campground pitfalls, the nuts and bolts of RV maintenance, a glossary of terms, and several suggested road trips.

I liked the authors' self-deprecating tone and humorous asides. It's easy to see they learned things the hard way, with painful after-effects, and hope their book will help others benefit from their mistakes.

Favorite Quote:
"...we took a solemn oath never to refer to our motor home as a "rig" . . . . We also swore we'd never (a) wear visored caps . . . (b) display wooden nameplates saying, `Hi we're Harry and Shirley from LA' . . .and (c) never refer to ourselves as pilot and co-pilot."
