This review is from: Fieldline Glenwood Canyon Internal Frame Backpack - Mossy Oak Breakup (Kitchen)
This pack is targeted towards an adult audience, but this pack is designed for a teenager or a pre-teen. The over all length of the pack is too short for an average adult torso. Once the shoulder straps are adjusted, the waist belt is at stomach level, which puts it about 6 inches too high. Keep in mind, I am 5 feet 9 inches tall.It would be really difficult to adjust the pack so that the weight sits on an average adults hips, and then have the shoulder straps adjusted properly. If the pack is dropped down so the waist belt to on the hips, the shoulder straps have to have slack, which allows the pack to drop down and backwards. This puts undue stress on the spine. If the pack was about 6 - 8 inches longer it would be a much better fit. This pack may fit someone that is about 5 feet 4 inches tall. But for an average adult, who is about 5 feet 9 inches, this pack is much too short. The top compartment were most people keep their compass, GPS and topo maps unzips to the rear of the pack. Just about every time the top compartment was unzipped, all of the contents fall out and onto the ground. When the main pack is filled with gear, the side pockets are squeezed to the point that nothing can be put in them. It looks as if when the pack was designed, the side pockets were not given enough material. So when the pack is full, the side pockets are almost useless. Small items, such a pill bottles with matches can be put in the side pockets, but not much else. When the pack is empty, the pockets look big enough. But when the gear starts filling the pack up, the side pockets get pushed in. Lack of tie down points makes attaching anything to the top or the bottom of the of the pack almost impossible. After taking my pack on two hiking / camping trips it has been retired to the closet. However, this would be an ok pack for a pre-teen or a smaller framed adult. |
