5.0 out of 5 stars A new high point for critically praised Jose and friends. September 29, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Junip is the band that includes guitarist/vocalist Jose Gonzalez, who produced wonderful albums Veneer and In Our Nature. As much as I love those two albums, I find that the addition of drums and keys on "Fields" expands the types of songs Gonzalez can do and improves their overall listenability.

At the risk of damning with faint-sounding praise, these songs are pleasant. But that's no small feat, creating an entire collection of songs none of which breaks the spell that the low-key instrumentals and understated singing produces. Nothing Junip does is ever likely to grace a karoake collection--the songs are not tuneful in that way. But there is a sense in which the sophisticated poetry is carried along by the bouyant melodies and unobtrusive percussion that is very compelling and works on two levels: Fields can be wonderful background music for a gathering, but the lyrics are such that they will reward more mindful reflection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Junip- Fields- Ethereal October 15, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Junip's new cd Fields is at once original and timeless. Gonzalez' vocals mix in and simply become another instrument yet the lyrics soar and make you perk up to listen more closely. Each song, while remaining in theme, has a different feel and never gets old. Wondering about life, wandering through relationships and time, death and love...all these with new 'old soul' eyes.
I would reccommend this album to many - from those who love the old Danny Kirwan Fleetwood Mac days to those listening to the newer things such as Death Cab or Carey Brothers.

5.0 out of 5 stars how did I not know about this?
I've been a big Jose Gonzalez fan for a while, but had no idea he had another band. This is more psychedelic than his solo stuff, but I love it, especially the moog synth. Read more

Love this album! Great acoustic rock (not being ironic here). Very much like Jose Gonzalez's solo work but with more energy. The vinyl version is beautiful and high quality.
