5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic and widely relevant, March 26, 2009
This review is from: Fieldwork Under Fire: Contemporary Studies of Violence and Culture (Paperback)
This is a fantastic read. It is useful and relevant for all field workers, regardless of whether or not they expect to encounter violence. These authors address everyday realities in challenging situations. Many of the issues they discuss are encountered by all fieldworkers--these issues simply become more consequential in violent circumstances: how to deal with rumors as sources of knowledge and historical narrative, how to distinguish information from rhetoric and stay critical during interviews, and how to make our research relevant to the communities we study. Highly recommended.
