5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing not to love about this pin
If you're an avid baker you'll really appreciate this tool. The silicone surface releases dough like magic. The ball bearings make rolling a joy.

As for the other reviewer's comment that they'd be returning it because it can't be cleaned in a dishwasher . . . this is ridiculous. Kitchen tools made with a chemically reactive metal, such as aluminum, should...

2.0 out of 5 stars Wife doesn't use it, everything sticks to it...
This thing is wonderful if you can keep it clean. I bought this for my wife, a commercial pastry chef, and she rarely if ever uses it. She complains that everything sticks to it. I suggested dusting it with flour to keep that from happening but she still doesn't use it.

Just consider that fact before you buy...

If you're an avid baker you'll really appreciate this tool. The silicone surface releases dough like magic. The ball bearings make rolling a joy.

As for the other reviewer's comment that they'd be returning it because it can't be cleaned in a dishwasher . . . this is ridiculous. Kitchen tools made with a chemically reactive metal, such as aluminum, should NEVER be put into the caustic environment of an automatic dishwasher. It's common sense.

Would you put Calphalon cookware (anodized aluminum) in the dishwasher? How about an aluminum ice cream scoop or garlic press? Hopefully not. If you do, then you're probably replacing perfectly good kitchen tools every couple of years for no good reason.

And for that matter, if you prefer traditional wood rolling pins (which also are exposed to raw egg), would you put one of those in the dishwasher or refuse to use one just because it's not dishwasher safe?

Everyone's got their own opinions. But some reviewers should just keep them to themselves.

I love this product, and I'm betting you will, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sil-pin a great rolling pin, November 30, 2007
This review is from: Fiesta Products Traditional Rubber Handles Sil-pin Silicone Rolling Pin, Red (Kitchen)
This rolling pin has a smooth action and doesn't stick to my fondant (I use it in my cake decorating business). I only wish it were wider. They make one without handles that is wider, and I might get one someday, but I do like having the handles for now. Great kitchen tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy basic rolling pin, February 14, 2009

This is a nice, solid, basic rolling pin. It has a comfortable action and good solid weight, so it does more of the work for you and spares pressure on your hands (I usually use a narrow French pastry pin, and with stiffer doughs, it can be punishing to your hands.) I used it last night to make French sablé cookies, which are a rich, slightly stiff/crumbly dough. Note: I always roll these types of dough between sheets of waxed paper, to help in transferring. The pin worked very nicely, and cleaned up easily with a damp sponge. Criticism: I wish it were longer. I won't be able to roll a big piecrust with it.

Re: cleaning -- bakers have been using wooden implements (cutting boards, butcher blocks, rolling pins, peels, spoons, etc.) for thousands of years without bacterial incident. When you cook something at 300F or higher for a while, any germs that might have been hiding therein are toast. It doesn't need to be dishwasher safe to be cleanable and safe to use. Just my $0.02.

I bought this rolling pin with the assumption that I wouldn't need any flour. Wrong!! Minimal flour is still needed. However, I liked this pin in all other aspects such as the weight (heavy, but not too much) and the steel bearings, which make for a smooth roll.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool !!, July 4, 2007
This review is from: Fiesta Products Traditional Rubber Handles Sil-pin Silicone Rolling Pin, Red (Kitchen)
I have this rolling pin and it really has helped with ease of baking and very quick clean-up. I would't put this in a dishwasher since it's so easy to wash silicone and sanitize it with a 1:10 ratio bottle of bleach/water that's always at my sink for cleaning. A dishwasher gets water fom the same tank (in most homes) as the sink faucet & recommended highest heat levels are 140º. If you want to put it in hotter water, boil some. The drying function on a dishwasher would probably only degrade the rubber handles. I wonder if some bakers put their wooden rolling pins in the dishwasher to sanitize?

4.0 out of 5 stars child's rolling pin, January 30, 2010

The rolling pins - I bought both a blue and red one for my granddaughters - work very well. The silicon surface keeps the dough from sticking, and that keeps them from becoming frustrated. They are ages 5 1/2 and 7 1/2 and love to roll out cookies to decorate.

My only complaint is the size. When they saw them they thought they were too small. Another two inches would be helpful. Nevertheless they loved rolling the dough and the small size helps in teaching rolling technique. A large rolling pin is unwieldy for small hands.

I will get these pins again, for my 4 year old grandkids. This size will be perfect for them.

I was really optimistic about this product...but I found myself going back to my old wooden pin that this product SHOULD have way outclassed. Even with a light dusting of flour dough still managed to stick to this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Pin for Bread Dough, March 16, 2010

We purchased this to replace a worn-out maple pin and wanted something better. As we roll-out a lot of fairly stiff bread dough for cinnamon rolls, flatbread, calzones, etc. it has to be sturdy. The larger handles and the larger diameter make this very comfortable to use (no knuckle scraping). The silicone surface works very well; no sticking at all. Overall a very good product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Red rolling pin, March 16, 2007
This review is from: Fiesta Products Traditional Rubber Handles Sil-pin Silicone Rolling Pin, Red (Kitchen)
I was disappointed to see in clear print that this rolling pin is NOTout dishwasher safe. Given I will be rolling dough w/ raw egg in it, that isn't acceptable. Handwashing doesn't really sanitize like a dishwasher, so I will be returning this item.
