Fiesta Scarlet 831 4-Piece Dinnerware Place Setting, Service for 1

We do not have just one color. I buy at least one piece of each new color that comes out. So, we have a hodge-podge of colors. We have one black piece. It is a dinner plate and my husband knows he is in trouble when I set his place with THE BLACK PLATE. We only use it when someone is in "hot water." Just thought everyone would appreciate our family tradition.

I just received the last of 12 4-piece sets (2 each of six colors) that I just ordered and in general I am very pleased with the product, but I do have a couple of minors issues to share.

1. I just noticed that one of the Shamrock plates is a little wobbly on the table. I wish I had noticed that before we had used it two or three times, but the plate has always been used by other family members. Not a big deal, but come back to quality control issues that most people mention.

2. Also as others have mentioned, there are some glaze imperfections on some of the pieces. Usually around the white ring on the base of the plates and bowls or a little on the handles of the mugs. Does not really deter from the usefulness of the product -- I might not have even noticed if it were not for some of the reviews.

3. Finally, I did start to wonder if these items had production flaws or if Amazon is selling "seconds" or returns. I hope this is not the case since Amazon does not disclose these items as such, but I had a couple of things that make me wonder.

a. Inconsistent packaging material in boxes
b. Department store price tag on a bowl in one set
c. Packed in plain boxes instead of colorful one like at local stores
d. Issues with tangerine set as described below
e. The glaze issues, the wobbly plate, other's comments.

Despite the items above, I am please with the Fiestaware and like it a whole lot better than the Pfaltzgraff we replaced.

A couple of notes with regard to Amazon:
1. I did go to other sites to judge colors because the Amazon colors are pretty much wrong on about half the items.

2. I have a major production flaw on one set (purple dots on a tangerine mug). Amazon did a great job of replacing that set, but the 2nd set arrived broken (only breakage I had, it also was replaced by Amazon, no issue). My real concern with this broken replacement set appeared to be opened and then re-packaged. The outside packing tape was double taped instead on the normal single tape, and an inside piece of packing material was in upside down (I believe this is why the plate broke in transit).

I had a total of six colors in the contemporary Fiesta, and have loved them all. However there was something missing... I just received two, four piece place settings in the scarlet, and they are STUNNING! It brings out the beauty in all of the rest of my colors. The color is of a maraschino cherry, bold bright, and beautiful!

I am a bit of a color snob. My husband rolls his eyes when I very casually, very quietly, switch out the plate he has laid out for me because it doesn't go well with the food that will be placed on top of it.

I have a set of Fiestaware dishes and bowls and tend to color coordinate my food to the dishes I use. I find that the scarlet goes beautifully with any meal!

I've only had my Fiestaware for a little over 1 year, but I absolutely love it! There are so many accessories, that people always know what to buy for gifts. The colors are gorgeous and very versatile depending on your mood.....definitely a good buy!

I recently switched to Fiestaware after tiring of the dishes I got when I got married. My sister collects yellow, white, and turquoise. I decided to get 2 place settings of each color that I like. I made a quilt last summer that has lots of bright colors, so I chose colors from the quilt. So far, I have tangerine, sunflower yellow, plum, cobalt, shamrock green, and now scarlet! I'm thinking about adding white as well. I just love this stuff!

Otherwise, the quality standard is as good as any other color or piece of Fiestaware!

I am in love with the bowls that come with the Fiestaware place settings. Do you know how cereal, especially with sliced bananas, can spill over the sides of a wide-brimmed bowl? That never happens with the Fiestaware bowls in the place settings. They are sturdy, with HIGH sides, so your cereal and fruit stay where they belong!

If you're planning on buying JUST the bowls, make sure you see them in person because Fiestaware makes a number of bowls in all shapes and sizes and it can be difficult to tell the sizes from photos. The "cereal bowls," for instance, that you can buy separately are much smaller than the bowls that come with the place setting.

I discovered Fiestaware when I was searching for lead-free dinnerware NOT made in China. Fiestaware is made in America and its current products are lead-free. (Beware, however, the vintage Fiestaware made decades ago; because the glazes were then made with uranium, they actually have serious radiation problems. Think I'm kidding? Do an Internet search for "Fiestaware" and "radiation.")

The Fiestaware made today is safe, sturdy, attractive, and very functional. It's not delicate or fine china, but it is fun and serviceable everyday dinnerware. I highly recommend it.

I've had my fiestaware for just over one year now, and still love it. I purchased four different colors: red, yellow, green, and blue. They look beautiful, can be used in the microwave and dishwasher, and are sturdy but not too heavy. The blue (which is more of a navy) does show knife scratches a little, but it has not removed any of the color. Best of all, the style has been around so long, you don't have to worry about replacing your dishes if you happen to break one!
