About the Author

Elizabeth Bell, a resident of Antigua Guatemala for 31 years, grew up in Palo Alto, California and moved to Antigua at the age of 14. She has a Teaching Degree from the University of San Carlos in Guatemala, Masters Degree in History from the University of Washington (ABT), a certificate in Architectural Conservation from the International Centre for the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property in Rome, Italy and post graduate courses in Cultural Heritage & Tourism. From 1978-1984 she created and directed cultural heritage programs for 10,000 schoolchildren a year through the National Council for the Protection of Antigua Guatemala and directed their public information department. Since 1992 she has worked in cultural tourism with slide presentations, cultural tours, and publications through her company, Antigua Tours. Through cultural tours, she sponsors the restoration work at the Colonial Art Museum in Antigua. Professor Bell is Academic Coordinator for Elderhostel in Guatemala. She also writes and publishes books on Antigua Guatemala (listed below). She is currently working on a coloring book for Conservation International to save the scarlet macaws in the Guatemalan jungle and also writing a book on Santo Domingo in Antigua for publication in Guatemala.
