I know about 5 of these songs which earlier to this appeared on the tribute album 'Between Heaven & Hell: a tribute to the Velvet Underground'. The others here I haven't heard (although I'm dying to hear Swervedriver do 'Jesus'). Anyway, Ride does a sinister cover of 'European Son'; Screaming Trees do a soaring cover of 'What Goes On'; The Wedding Present totally mellow out with 'She's My Best Friend'; and Buffalo Tom and Nirvana, of course, are great here. Oh, and James totally re-claims 'Sunday Morning' as their own-really beautiful.
If you can find Between Heaven & Hell, it is outstanding also: Chapterhouse, Nick Cave, the Telescopes, Love & Rockets all contribute covers.

Fine Velvet Underground tribute album. Well known Velvet songs recorded by excellent bands. This is a summary of three volumes "Heaven And Hell". Most I like "Here She Comes Now" by Nirvana, "Sunday Morning" by James, "Foggy Notion" by Echo And The Bunnymen, "Pale Blue Eyes" by Mock Turtles and "European Son" by Ride.
