A DROP OF BLOOD SPILT IS A UNIVERSE LOST FOREVER

This is the story of David, a space explorer who is sent on a mission of discovery in an uncharted corner of space in search of an intelligent and powerful race. He finds a world of a new race of humans that still thrives in the Middle Ages and, of all things, dragons. It is a strange world where fantasy is reality, and the reality that David is used to is more of a myth than the fact of life. It is a world where psychic power reigns over the people's daily lives rather than technology. David is surprised to find himself a legend in this world, that he had already been a part of this planet's history for a long time. Thus, he is thrust into a series of events from which he cannot escape until the very end of his purported role. He is almost overwhelmed by these events. Still, he learns that there is more to this world than meets the eye, that this is a world of very powerful beings, and that there is a scheme brewing in their midst, one that may involve not only his home world of Earth, but also the other dimensions of reality. No one will be spared from the ensuing catastrophe and revolution if their scheme would come to fruition. Ironically, David is the harbinger of this cataclysmic change, and he doesn't know it. Against all odds, he will try to bring change to this world, thwart their schemes, and save all of reality, with mainly his impregnable integrity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Science Fiction Meets Fantasy!, August 19, 2008
This review is from: The Fifth Dimension (Paperback)
This book starts out like a Twilight Zone episode with a space traveler (David) reaching another planet and observing it. He notes the people appear to be living in the middle ages. He then sees them tie up a girl and leave her to be sacrificed to a giant dragon (almost like the scene on Skull Island in King Kong). David decides to take action and rescues the girl, badly wounding the dragon with his weapon (a type of phaser a la Star Trek). This sets in motion an upset to the status quo between dragon and human (he forgot the prime directive, not to interfere on a foreign planet) and creates a war between human and dragon.

As the war progresses, David learns the dragons are intelligent and are driven to what they do by a group of dragon elders. David, himself is being guided by elders from Earth.

The rest of the book morphs into a Doctor Strange like tale with David battling in his asteral form, while fulfilling an ancient prophesy told in a book.

The book had a lot of holes, especially that both dragons and humans speak David's language and he accepts that without question. However, the author has a very good method of storytelling that holds the reader's interest throughout the book. I am generally not a fantasy buff but I liked this book for the most part.
