A Gem of The New Wave Era (1986),

Though the Adicts encorporate keyboards on this album--its a good thing because, unlike most mid-80s artists they do not over-use the keyboards. Thus, this album is vastly better than its contemporaries. It's like the Buzzcocks but with better vocals--in fact Monkey's voice is stronger on this album than any other. The best song is 'Na Na Na'--it's artfulness belies the lame title. 'Beauty Sleep' features guest vocals from Siouxsie Sioux. Though many of the songs have the gloomy synth sound so prevalent in UK New Wave, the Adicts include rockers like 'She's a Rocker' and 'Daggers' before giving us the racious bonus tracks which comprise their 1985 'Bar Room Bop' EP which, like '5th Overture' was impossible to find until this reissue. The 'Bar Room Bop' songs are much more bouncy and punk than the '5th Overture' tracks--especially the party anthem 'Who Spilt My Beer?'

Different. But change is good sometimes.,

I usually review black, death, and thrash metal albums but I will make an exception for this album. This album is great. I bought it when I was 14 when I was way into punk. This and "Living In Darkness" by Agent Orange are the only punk albums I still listen to today. This is the best Adicts album. The rest of them are more happy and poppy. This album is more of a new wave album, but its still great. My favorite bands are decide, Gorgoroth and Nachtmystium, but I still listen to this album daily.

This album is not as great as Sound of Music and Smart Alex but I still feel is definitly worth buying. This album is alot of fun to listen to. My favs are Na Na Na, I'm Yours, Champ Ulysees, and Sound of Music.

I think this was their most experimental album,

I only give this a four stars because this was too 80s for me but I think a lot of british bands from the 80s did this too (Anti-Nowhere League's Perfect Crime, Chron Gen's Nowhere to run, Major Accident did one song that sounds 80s, Sham 69's Volunteer and many others). Anyway, this album has good instrumentals but the lyrics are not the best. This is definitly not for newbies of the band. Trust me if you listened to this first, you might think they are an 80's band and not a punk band. this album is for collectors or the hardcore Adicts fans only. This was the rarest album of them all (due to a power outage at the company who pressed the original copies) but it's not rare anymore.

really..everything adicts is great,
This review is from: Fifth Overture (Audio CD)
this album is no exception..people will trash it due to the keyboards and such, but to me it is just as good as songs of praise and 27...sound of music is their best though
this one feels more emotionally charged than the previous...smart alex was sort of deadbeat, but this picks up the pace majorly. adicts albums in the order i recommend them: 1.Sound of music 2.songs of praie 3.27 4.fifth overture 5.rise and shine 6.rollercoatser 7.smart alex they also are amazing in their live album too!

If you buy this album expecting fun happy punk adicts, you might be wrong. They have a totally different sound on this cd. It's more new wavy and senthisized. But all of the songs are still really catchy, and great. Especially Champ Elysees. So...WARNING : This cd is not your typical Adicts sound.
