5.0 out of 5 stars Love these books for ADULTS who love to color for relaxing.!
I got my first dover coloring book about 30 years ago and have been hooked. I now have a collection of about 20. They are kind of hard to find in retail and when you do the selection is poor.

I find coloring to be very relaxing when you are stressed. I also cannot just watch tv I like to be doing crochet or cross stitching, coloring.

These books...

2.0 out of 5 stars Who's favorite birds?
I love birds. And I have many favorites. Here are some of the birds that are not included in the coloring book: ostrich, penguin, peacock, and flamingo. Not one interesting bird is included. Birds like the common crow are, however. Which makes me wonder: Whos favorite birds are these? All the birds featured in the book are small brown or woodland birds that are common in...

These books are very well done as far as the drawings are concerned. They can be very intricate. Some are made more for children but many would be hard for a child under say 10yrs old to do and feel good about.

They are best done with colored pencils as you can get really good at shading and make them really pretty.

I highly recommend this and many others. I do own this specific book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Details, March 19, 2008
This review is from: Fifty Favorite Birds Coloring Book (Dover Nature Coloring Book) (Paperback)
This book was wonderful in it's detail and I truly like the fold out pages with the pictures of the birds in their true colors. I look forward to many hours with this book. Perhaps it is the kid in me, or perhaps this book is good for grownups, whichever way you feel, I liked it.

I've searched for years for the kind of coloring books we enjoyed as children.
Gave them (with crayons) as Christmas gifts to grandchildren from four to twenty-four,
who immediately began to color. One comment later was how relaxing it is.
Dover books are full of detail and my youngest grandkids seem to realize that
they are special, and actually respond by surprising us with their careful, quality work.

4.0 out of 5 stars 50 common birds of America, October 19, 2011

Nice little book to study 50 of the most common birds in America. Great for artists and crafters and those learning about birds. NOT a detailed birding book. There are others better at that. But large black and white drawings that let you see the details of each bird and a sentence that gives the common and scientific name as well as regions it can normally be found. Small colored drawings of each bird are also included for color reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought for 16 year old, July 21, 2011

I bought this for my 16 year old neice who lives overseas. She wrote me a letter and said that she would just as soon never grow up. (Not want to grow up!!! You can tell she is not in America.) I figure she will have to grow up soon enough, but for the time being, she is stuck in that wonderful limbo between being a teenager and going into adulthood. My sister said she still even likes to color. She is a fan of astronomy and orithinology, so I decided to order her this coloring book. Figure it will give her something to do to pass the time while she lives on the outskirts of the world.
Of course, the birds are American, but I have nothing on the birds of Viet Nam where she is tucked away in the mountains, so I will send her this. I was meaning to get her a book on American birds and send with it, but when the coloring book arrived, I noted that it has pictures of the birds in the back of the coloring book. So she will be able to see what the real colors are from that. What a relief that was. Sending a book overseas costs about twice the price of the book!
So I am really pleased with this item. Since I do not know my birds that well, I am thinking of getting one for myself. But, not, I will probably get a book on birds and just look at the pictures. Unfortunately, I did grow up and did not take a bent for coloring into my adulthood. Mores the pity. It seems like it might be a good stress reliever!
But, this is a really nice little book and very inexpensive at #3.99. It has a total of 46 pages in the book, which works out to about 75 cents a page. Can hardly get Anything for that!
I do not know why you are considering the book, but hope this information helps you in your choice. I consider it a good deal!

I sent this overseas and they were given to children recovering in the hospital. It makes one feel all warm inside knowing that you have played a part in bringing pleasure to innocent victims of war.

Fantastic. These books are the best I have found to find pictures to use as templets or stencils for designs to paint on silk.
