About the Author
Rabbi Shmuel Herzfeld is the Rabbi of Ohev Sholom The National Synagogue, the oldest Orthodox synagogue in Washington, DC. He received rabbinic ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University and a Masters in Jewish History from Bernard Revel Graduate School of Yeshiva University. Rabbi Herzfeld served as Assistant Rabbi to Rabbi Avi Weiss at the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale from 1999 2004. Since arriving in Washington, DC, in September, 2004, Rabbi Herzfeld s synagogue has grown from less than twenty families to over three hundred families. In addition to the daily classes that he teaches in his synagogue, he teaches Torah classes at think tanks in Washington, DC, on Capitol Hill at the invitation of the Congressional Jewish Staffers Association and the Senate Chaplain s office, and a rotating Torah class in the District s finest law firms. Rabbi Herzfeld has written for the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN and, Fox News. He now shares his Torah thoughts regularly with readers of the Huffington Post and Washington Post.
