Fifty Hikes in Northern Maine
My family and I used this book for years. We loved hiking in Maine and glad to see people believe in "North of Portland". A great family book!

Misleading title
I have lived all over Maine and New England, and am about to return to Aroostook County, which is Northern Maine. I got this book in preparation for that. Im moving up near Presque Isle, so I was thrilled to find some organized info on hikes. Unfortunately, there really is not a single hike in the book that is north of Katahdin. Most of the other ones listed are south of...

I have lived all over Maine and New England, and am about to return to Aroostook County, which is Northern Maine. I got this book in preparation for that. Im moving up near Presque Isle, so I was thrilled to find some organized info on hikes. Unfortunately, there really is not a single hike in the book that is north of Katahdin. Most of the other ones listed are south of Bangor, Bangor being just about the mid-Maine mark. This is an unfortunate perpetuation of the belief that nothing worthwhile exists north of Bangor. Quite a lot does, in fact. The book is otherwise good information. It just didn't live up to it's title.
