All three books are on the NY Times Bestseller's list this week leaving me terrified and disappointed in readers. I read the first book and rolled my eyes as frequently as Miss Steele did because I was overwhelmed with horror. No plot, no great twists, no separation of characters (they all say 'Laters' when they leave a room or end an e-mail), and most of all, this author has no idea how to write about sex. Her play by play sex scenes are beyond shallow. If she knew how to write, she would have zoomed in on Anastasia's mental reaction to being dominated, as well as her shocked psyche at being so turned on to being dominated. But wait a minute....she's a virgin. The protaganist is not even believable. Any normal girl would run for the hills with no sexual experience. Oh my, let's not forget that she has no interest in her new persuer's over-the-top wealth. Anastasia, doesn't run, she engages and is multi-orgasmic from the get-go. This is a joke. Penthouse Forum is a better read. I think this trilogy should be renamed 'Fifty Lashes Will Get You Published.'

I understand why this book is important. I understand that it's a hit because it made the sub/dom fantasy accessible to the masses. I enjoy reading the story and want to know what happens.

That said, I was sorely disappointed and really wish this had not been THE book that introduced this fantasy.

My problems with it:
1. The sex scenes are not well written enough to serve as actual erotica. They don't bring the reader into the moment well enough.
2. The main character is a virgin. The majority of people reading this book are not virgins. It bothers me that the fantasy is about being virginal and inexperienced.
3. The fantasy is associated with abuse. I'm sure this is common, but it annoys me that that's all that makes it okay in the main character's mind.
4. The writing is hideous. The emails were the best written parts of the book.

What a waste of time. Having just finished a few books by Nicholas Sparks, I thought I'd try this "erotica" I've been hearing all about. Might have a few good sex scenes in it and a compelling story.
NOPE AND NOPE
The sex scenes take up about 70% of the book, most of which gets repetitive and boring after the first 10... I skipped over most of them.
And the characters are so stupid. If I ever hear the words "inner goddess" again I'm going to jump in front of a bus.
IT'S WRITTEN LIKE A BAD PORNO. Maybe if you have zero experience with reading you might like it. Or maybe if you're 14 and giggle every time she says "he touched me in my sex" <--- wtf?! But other than that.. Stay away. Such a waste of time.

I first read this book on a trip I took with my husband to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Let's just say, I will never forget that trip.

Since then, I have read books two and three and really enjoyed them all, especially since this is my third time reading them.

Can't wait for the movie to come out. I will be one of the first people in line!

Had already read 1st two books of Fifty Shades trilogy; decided to try the audio version ( generally prefer listening to reading). I was VERY disappointed by the reader. She has a childish voice with little expression, not appropriate for what is supposed to be erotic adult material! I'm taking it right back to the library & will stick to the printed page for this book.

I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did, it was pretty amazing. I have heard a lot of hype about this novel, it was worth the hype it received. I felt very sympathetic to the characters and they felt like they were actually people. Regarding the graphic content, there was a lot of that but I thought that it contributed to the story. Christian was a very sympathetic character, strangely I felt myself rooting for him and Anatashia to make it work. I am not usually the one that rate books five stars but this book deserved it. I love how the lively characters came together. In addition, the writing style was very unique and I easily followed the story.

I look forward to reading the trilogy.

I myself found the book tastefully written and it held my attention until the last word. The characters were believable and easily to get to know. I also saw the movie first which I really enjoyed but enjoyed the book even more. I started out reading but but finally switched over to the audio version so I could listen and do other things. I am definitely going to read the 2nd book and if it as good as the first I will read the 3rd one also. Different strokes for different folks. I wonder in all those negative reviews how many have actually been in a BDSM relationship? Probably not many they just live through books and think they know what it is all about. BDSM usually shows a lots of respect for both parties.
