Stupid book. I don't even know why I bought this. Couldn't even finish reading the first chapter before I lost interest. I shouldn't have listened to all the hype.

OK OK OK , I caved and bought this book. I knew what it was about and have seen the trailer to the movie ( I don't live under a rock so I knew what it was all about). Boy, I just do not see what all the hoo-ha is all about. I must have missed something. It is super easy to read and it does flow but I am just very UNDERWHELMED considering the 1,000,000,000 reviews and everyone talking about it. Typically movies aren't as good as the book so since I have read the book no way will I see the movie and no way will I be buying the others in the series. There are soooooo many other series books available that makes this one seem a little juvenile. I'm still shaking my head at why this is so successful.....

Lets just make this quick instead of pretty:

* The writing is of incredibly low quality.
* There is very little plot.
* The narrative can be very cheesy, and is annoyingly repetitive throughout the book.
* There are very large plot holes, and details are generally missing about most of the characters lives. It makes them just that much more unbelievable.
* The heroine is wishy-washy and indecisive. A very weak, dull, and cowardly type that puts women in a terrible light.
* The hero is a victim of child abuse who has become a rich and powerful stalker with serious emotional issues. He does not respect that fact that 'no' means 'no.' He also continually defends the sexual abuse he experienced.
* The sexual scenes are very tame and old hat if you have ever read anything in the romance and erotica genre.
* The story is a terrible representation of people who consider themselves part of the 'kink' or BDSM community.
* Even with the lack of actual action or plot, the story still does not conclude in this first book.

There is nothing that makes this book worth reading. I read it because I had to see what the hype was about. Don't make the same mistake!

Some of the worst writing I've ever encountered. I don't know what the big deal is over this book, although the subject matter is clearly adult, it is written for 5th graders. If I had to read "Oh My" one more time I was going to throw up. Sorry, it stinks

I really wanted to like this book, even put it down for a few day and read something else and then gave the book a second chance from the beginning. Mr. Grey has absolutely no appeal for me at all. None I don't like him and that's not going to change. He is jealous and insecure, I understand he has been abused somewhere along the line either by Mrs. Robinson and a parent either way I still don't like how he acts. I really liked Anastasia, however I think she never really had any other options besides Christian before she signed the N.D.A. or the Contract, she shows some internal independence not nearly enough for me to continue the series. Yes the contract has a number of exit clauses. bottom line date someone, not contract them to be a dominate. I think this was the biggest issue I had a problem with. Also her emotions were up and severely down, usually if someone makes you that depressed their not worth it no matter how much their net-worth is or how altruistic they seem. This one is going to the donate bag. I just didn't find it entertaining, I can read J.D. Robb or Anita Blake

I don't understand people. Fifty Shades is neither the first nor the last erotic novel to be written. If you've never read an erotic novel, you won't like it and you'll be appalled. You knew what it was about, so why did you read it? If erotic novels aren't your cup of tea, don't freakin' read it! If you didn't like Fifty Shades' BDSM, which in book 1 barely go anywhere, don't go near AN Roquelaure aka Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy. And if you need this series in order to be with your husband or partner, you've got bigger problems.

That being said, it was weak. Laurell K. Hamilton and Anne Rice do it better. And I believe Ana is schizophrenic. How many voices are in her head?! There's herself, her subconscious, and her inner goddess. And somewhere, her inner submissive. Girl needs help. I'm actually a little disappointed. Not as shocking as I was led to believe. And what are we 12? "Down there." *eye roll* And Ana is wayyyyyy to innocent to be believable. 1.5 out of 5 because I'm actually a little interested in the story, like why Christian is so effed up, thus the extra half a point/star.

"harlequin romance" type book. Poor writing. Self esteem issues for the woman character.
