This is a compilation from various authors writing on the subject of turning 50. The first contributor really lays it on the line by saying "Stop complaining" and get your act together so that you'll get through many years after 50. I appreciated that these 50 writers "provided essays on a pro-bono basis" and profits from the book will go toward non-profit organizations focused on cancer research. This is a great book to give as a gift to friends reaching this sometimes challenging milestone.

So I'm 26... I read about half the book the night before I gave this to my mother for her 50th. I really liked it and wished that I had more time to finish it. Even though I'm only :) halfway to 50 I was feeling like it applied a lot to my life as well. My mother was struggling with the idea of turning 50. The three best things (in this order)that we did to help her get over this feeling was 1) overwhelm her with "little" surprises... 2) let all her friends, family, and coworkers know (They added to the little surprises way more than what we could have done)and 3) we gave her this book (Fifty Things to Do When You Turn Fifty: Fifty Experts on the Subject of Turning Fifty)to read on the down time after everything was all said and done. She positivity commented on the book a few times on how it really gave her a different outlook than what she had.

I read this book in almost one sitting. I found the advice helpful, as well as entertaining. I have three friends turning 50 in March and bought a copy for each of them. I'm trying to make my year of turning 50 pivotal. This book helped me wrap my brain around saying "I'm Fifty."

I would recommend this book to anyone turning 50. I bought it for my mother for her birthday and she has appreciated it more than we both thought she would. At first when she read the title she kind of rolled her eyes and thought "Oh yeah... 50 things to do when you're 50. They probably say to sky-dive and bungee-jump... not going to happen." I was a little worried that it may be fluffy or not very practical, but in fact it has been a great comfort to her. Because the authors have all turned 50 they are writing from a realistic standpoint, not a stereotypical "bucket list" viewpoint. They offer solid advice and personal stories that she has really been able to relate to. Often times she tells me something about what she read in the book that has given her a new way of thinking about life after her 50th birthday. I am VERY glad I bought it for her and very glad she is reading it. She dreaded turning 50, but this book has helped her embrace her age! :) Order this one instead of any of those other zillion "When you're 50" books. :)

This book is written in short snippets of good advice, brief stories, and lessons learned. I bought it in anticipation of my 50th birthday and it helps bring perspective to what is important as I move to my later years. Retirement, aging, losses, are not death sentences for us. Women who still have a pulse will enjoy this book.

Knowledgeably edited by Ronnie Sellers, Fifty Things To Do When You Turn Fifty is an informed and thought-provoking collection of fifty writers contributing ideas, advice, observations, and instructions upon turning fifty years old. As an ideal how-to and what-to-do book informing its readers of the many fears and beliefs that might concern most fifty-year-olds, and explores why they might feel as they do and what to do to avoid or confront such barriers. Fifty Things To Do When You Turn Fifty is very strongly recommended to all readers who have or are contemplating turning fifty-something as the ultimate guideline of staying young as an explorative and practical fifty-year-old.

There was some good advice in here, or more accurately some vignettes. I didn't get much out of this book that I could apply to my own life. However, some people may find the stories inspirational, so I gave it an extra star for that reason.

A friend got this for a 50th birthday gift. I was so impressed, ordered my own copy. Gives one pause to think about the days to come. Wonderful gift!!!

I bought this book for my younger sister as part of her fiftieth birthday present. She particular about books and doesn't like anything too technical or too frivolous. She said this book was great and she's very much enjoying it.

My husband had received this book for his 50th birthday so he knew it was good. Our neighbor is enjoying it too.
