Fifty years at the Craps Tables,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fifty Years at the Craps Tables (Paperback)
"Fifty years at the Craps Tables" by Mr. Stuart is NOT a book about craps. It is ramblings about Las Vegas and various casinos. Apparently, telling stories about casinos and his previous play, mostly all wins, of course, is suppose to be a book on craps. Boring. His craps system?..."Play the pass line and take full odds. After the come out roll, make a come bet and take full odds." That is the entire book! What a waste of my time and money. I recommend this book for the circular file!

Comps,comps and more comps,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fifty Years at the Craps Tables (Paperback)
-I gave this book two stars because the author comes accross as a nice guy and he is a seasoned fellow craps player. The shocking thing that comes out of this book is that after fifty years of experience and dealing with the casinos, Mr. Stuart is still infatuated with comps and being treated like a big shot. Comps are the casinos best weapon against serious gamblers because comps are so appealing and subtle in their destrution of your good intentions. The cardinal rule that all gamblers must keep in mind and one that Mr. Stuart has apparently never learned is, ..If the casino wants you to do something or offers you something, it is almost never in your best interest. Sure take a chit for a free lunch or dinner AFTER you have gambled, but, if you become a comps player you will inevitably find yourself gambling where you shouldn't be and playing longer than you should. This is one of the most valuable lessons that can be handed down to newer gamblers and I'm surprised and shocked that Mr. Stuart never learned it.

Buy for history, NOT for tips on how to play craps,

I bought Mr. Stuart's book to learn from his 50 years at craps. I was disappointed with the guidance offered as the vague info could be summarized on a matchbook cover. I gave 2 stars for the interesting anecdotal info on the history of Vegas, but if you're trying to learn how to play READ SOMETHING ELSE. Historically, I've purchased 5 books, and have practiced methods and the best books to read are John Patrick's Advanced Craps book or Craps, the Real Deal : A Guide to Craps Strategy by Vogel. These books cover detailed money management, strategies/systems, charting a table, etc. The book by Frank Scoblete is also good, and different as to offer another strategy.

An enjoyable memoir by a guy who's been playing craps even longer than me -- far too long, in other words! Filled with fun little stories and reminiscences. No one will confuse it with James Joyce's "Ulysses," but it's a fun read for avid craps players.

An interesting perspective from a long time player,

While other books can provide a more detailed analysis of the various odds, bets, and betting strategies, I would not hesitate recommending this book to anyone interested in learning more about the game of craps. If you play craps, it pays to heed many of the lessons Mr. "Stuart" has learned over the last fifty years.

To Win at Craps,
By Donna Merrill (Sunny California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fifty Years at the Craps Tables (Paperback)
Fifty Years at the Crap Tables actually helped me win. The advice in the book covers the only bets at the tables that will give you a shot at the casinos and also great advice on money management (very important), casino psychology, when to bet and a list of the rules to follow. It's the best I have ever read on the game and I have been at it for 12 years. I loved the stories.

Save your money. This book is a waste of time for craps strategy. Agree 100% with review that this is nothing more than humorous(?) stories. And not even funny at that!

A REAL WINNER,
By Mark Powers (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fifty Years at the Craps Tables (Paperback)
I am a slot player. But I could not resist the title and endorsements, which, by the way, turn out to be really deserved. The stories and history are wonderfully written and the advice is not actually just for dice. The sections on the casinos and money management apply to all players and I have already won on a visit precisely because I followed the author's advice. I can't think of a better way to spend twelve bucks!

Winning at Craps,
By Ginger Edwards (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fifty Years at the Craps Tables (Paperback)
This is a really good book about craps and the neat story of the game. the dice themselves, the characters that built the business and, most importantly, how to win. It is VERY entertaining and VERY well written. The book is about 2/3 fun history and nostalgia and about 1/3 how to play to win. If you have any interest in gambling craps you will love this book. It is a fast read...three hours...and I could not put it down!

Well I read Mr Stuart's book and loved it... I enjoy gamblingbut haven't been very lucky. Every trip I take I have lost, sometimesnot very much, but a constant loser! Chasing my bet even when I have won, ending up a loser! I read the book used the author's advise and WON for the first time ever! So who ever is writing these poor reviews stating that the book is only entertaining, is absolutely WRONG! If it wasn't for my ... investment, I would have come back a loser once again! THANKS MR. STUART and I encourage you to pick up a copy, read it and then head to a crap table. You'll see what I mean if you do!
