TWO OF THE GREATEST USC HISTORIANS,

This review is from: Fight On! The Colorful Story of USC Football (Hardcover)
Steve Bisheff and Loel Schrader are two great USC historians. Schrader in particular is a man whose kind words, generosity of spirit, and willingness to pass on knowledge of the Trojans is truly impressive. Unquestionably, to truly understand USC football over the past 30 years one is at a great advantage if he was personally on hand to observe every play, interview each superstar face-to-face, and literally witness the events with his own eyes. Bisheff and Schrader have! This great book is a compilation of all that first-hand knowledge, and I cannot say enough fabulous things about it. I highly recommend this work to any Trojan or college football fan. It is indispensable. Bravo!!

This is a great book by an even greater author Steve Bisheff. I have purchased and enjoyed all his sports books. I'm not a USC fan, but it made a great gift for all my friends that are.

Conquest, traveler, the thundering herd, student body left, student body right, the rose bowl,"Fight On!" depicts the history and tradition of USC football from the early Howard Jones years to the Pete Carrol era through the guys who covered it and the players who lived it.It shows you USC football's golden era of the 1930s to its low point of the late 90s,and to its resurgences as college footballs dominant dynasties of today's era.Not just as a USC fan,but as college fan period,"Fight On!" is a great book and shows you what college football is truly about on and off the field.

Good book that captures the Trojan football history. The author has covered Trojan football for newspapers for years. I have always enjoyed his newspaper articles. The book captures a lot of those stories and USC history.USC is a very interesting football program for many years. They have had many ups and downs over the years and the author does a good job telling the stories. It is always understood that once a Trojan you are a Trojan for life. It is a great University that shines in many thing besides football. Book is a good read.

This is a great book. Fascinating stories. Well written. For a die-hard Notre Dame fan, some of the stories were tough to read(Anthony Davis) but this is a must read for any college football fan.

You don't have to be a USC alum,
This review is from: Fight On! The Colorful Story of USC Football (Hardcover)
"Fight On" is the rare sports book about a particular university that any football fan can enjoy, rather or not you have a relationship with that school. USC football came alive for me as a result of reading this book. Talk about history! It doesn't get any better than USC vs. Notre Dame. The entire history of the football program is here and the authors are to be commended for giving the casual fan, as well as USC alums and supporters, the ultimate read on USC football.

Unless the authors do a revised edition chronicling the misdeeds of the Cheatin' Petey era to put the decade of 2001-2010 into perspective, this book is now woefully inaduequate to tell the whole, real story. History will now record that Reggie Bush did not win a Heisman in 2005 (forfeited) and that 14 games-all of the 2005 season and some in 2004 including the National Championship game had to be vacated. That means the Trojans did not win the illegal Bush Push game at Notre Dame after all. That means that the 2004 National Championship is vacated. Reggie Bush is banished from the program. Petey Carroll took the first flight out of la la land when he saw what was coming down and took the money are ran for the pros. Mike Garrett and Pete Carroll's supposed decade of dominance is now forever tainted by a complete lack of institutional control. A true portrayal of the decade of the 2000s of USC football would have to include the ridiculous scenes of big money pro agents and LA rap thugsters yakking it up on the sidelines during USC games and in the locker room after the games hanging with the coaches and players, and luxury mansions in the LA hills for a player's parents and luxury SUVs galore on campus driven by players from the hood. So history will now record that USC has not won a consensus national championship since 1972, and that the last decade was a fraud. This book won't tell you those things.Edit---UPDATE. This book is rendered all the more moot and laughable now that USC has officially had its 2004 National Championship stripped. So they should reissue this book with that picture of Cheatin Petey holding the glass football removed and replaced by pics of Reggie Bush holding wads of cash. |
