4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not outstanding
The compositions are definitely good, but like another reviewer said, they're not played with the fire and enthusiasm of the originals. Typically, this means that the orchestral flow is not as "fluid" as the live band -- this composition tends to pronounce every note clearly (very staccato-like). If you're interested in only one fight song (from your alma mater,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Greatest college fight songs
The music on this CD was not very good. The renditions of YEA, ALABAMA and BOOMER SOONER were played at too slow of a tempo.
The AGGIE WAR HYMN was totally butchered at the end. Another thing wrong with this CD the omission of the MINNESOTA ROUSER and the SEMINOLE WAR CHANT. The renditions of ACROSS THE FIELD, NOTRE DAME VICTORY MARCH and FIGHT ON, USC were the best...

The compositions are definitely good, but like another reviewer said, they're not played with the fire and enthusiasm of the originals. Typically, this means that the orchestral flow is not as "fluid" as the live band -- this composition tends to pronounce every note clearly (very staccato-like). If you're interested in only one fight song (from your alma mater, for example), you're better served to go to that university's website and order their marching band's CD. But, if you want a good overall list of cross-country fight songs, this is pretty good. It includes lyrics with each fight song, but be sure to double-check them with the actual words. A couple (California, and Ohio State) were a bit incorrect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Bunch, August 29, 2001

This CD is the absolute best of all the college fight song CDs. It's digital sound is knockout and the performances, though a bit slower in pace generally than the marching band versions played on the field by most schools, has the large orchestra power you need to crank you up before the big game, or to keep the faith during the off season. The best renditions are the fight songs for USC (the greatest fight song ever written!), OKLAHOMA, TEXAS A&M, and my personal favorite and alma matar, ALABAMA! Roll Tide!

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 stars for value, October 5, 2000

the songs seemed more like parade songs than stadium songs but what a value. Even though this is an instrumental the liner notes list the lyrics for all the songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good fun -- not bad at all, July 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Fight On: The Greatest College Fight Songs (Audio CD)
I am an Alabama grad, four years in the Million Dollar Band. While this CD is not of the highest quality sound-fidelity wise, it is good fun. I thought the "Yea, Alabama" was rather stately . . . it is performed at a slower, 6 to 5 rhythm, such as for a parade. The other fight songs are pretty good too. This is not a great musical performance, and the sound sometimes has too much reverb, but it is good fun and well worth the price. By the way, the "Yea, Alabama" on the CD indeed is the correct tune. The sample for "Yea, Alabama" can be heard under the Cal-Berkeley heading -- go figure!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent collection for the college football enthusiast, August 4, 1999

Not each school's marching bands, but very nicely done. Surprised that Eyes of Texas (UT), Tennessee Fight song (or Rocky Top), and Georgia's song not included. Great renditions of USC, UCLA, Ohio St., Tex A&M, and our beloved Penn State. Go Lions! Excellent value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Variety, October 5, 2000

What makes this collection of college fight songs outstanding is its variety of the more obscure songs, such as those for Oregon, Oregon State, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Washington, Texas A&M. Many of these were available previously only from each college's band's website, and then you sometimes only got a snippet. I would like to know, however, what band it is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, November 12, 1998
By A Customer

The fight songs are just like what you hear at the stadiums. They jump right in at the chorus. I have another CD which plays a 2:20 minute version of The Victors. You wait a minute and a half before you recognize what is playing. This CD got it right along with all the others. You won't be disappointed.

The Nebraska fight song is not exactly what you would hear the Cornhusker band play, but most of the others had a Saturday game day ambiance to them

This is a great collection of fight songs. If you like college football, it is a must. Not all of your favorite teams may be on her, but you will recognize most of the songs. It is great music for pregame parties etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars A compilation for various occasions, April 4, 2002

Whether you are an alumnus searching for your college fight song, or a sound booth technician for your local Pop Warner League, this CD is perfect for all people. I myself am a high school student who is sampling fight songs in hopes of coming up with one with which i can switch some words to create a new school fight song. This has all the favorites, from such sing-a-longs as "Rambling Wreck" and "The Victors" to the classics and standards like "Fight The Team" and "The Notre Dame Victory March." Plain and simple, this CD has the college fight songs to fire up any crowd.
