Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6-- A promising book in a new series. Michael, Jeremy, and their adopted Vietnamese brother, Lee, are all studying karate. When Lee beats class bully Kevin in an exercise, Kevin takes it personally. He and his brother Jason decorate Lee's locker with chicken feathers, then slash his bike tires. Lee can't figure out how to keep his honor while still using karate only in defense. When he seeks to understand his opponents, however, he solves his problem. Some of the characters tend towards stereotype, but it's still nice to see a book integrate martial arts practices and philosophy with everyday situations. Plus, the suspense and tension will hold the attention of reluctant readers. --Cathryn A. Camper, Minneapolis Public Library

I absolutely love these books! They are are easy for kids to understand, and the stories are fun and imaginative. Carin Greenburg Baker is at her best. Being a second degree brown belt, any child who understands karate will not be able to get enough of these books!
