Book Description

May 5, 2008 Faithwords
Today's twisted pictures of gender roles create confusion over how a woman should define herself. Women and men are encouraged to move closer to center and away from the traits that distinguish male from female. How can women feel good about themselves when society is constantly dictating what they can and should be? In FIGHT LIKE A GIRL, Lisa Bevere exhorts us to embrace the differences between sexes. Her goal is to encourage women to celebrate the unique aspects of femininity. Instead of trying to adopt ill-fitting character traits, women should see themselves as designed and valued by God and savor their femininity as their strength, not a flaw.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Bevere, an evangelical speaker and author known for tackling touchy topics with candor, wit and transparency, lays down the gauntlet again as she calls Christian women to cease trying to emulate men and embrace their feminine, strong nature. Bevere (Kissed the Girls and Made Them Cry) offers women a clear alternative to society's take on the definition of true strength. Rather than relinquishing the power and influence that she believes women innately embody for the sake of mimicking men's overt physical strength, women can choose to wield their impact for good by way of subtler, more feminine speech and conduct. Bevere expounds upon the ways women fight best "as caretakers of others' hearts, by lifting another's spirit by speaking strength to their weaknesses, and wisely offering images of healthier, life-enhancing practices." She asserts that enemies often fall before influence rather than brute strength: "A gentle tongue can break a bone" (Prov. 25:15). Although some women will be put off by the book's gender-essentialist stance (e.g., women are by nature more tender and more spiritual, etc.), others will resonate with that message. All will appreciate Bevere's authenticity as she delves deep to unmask long-held misconceptions regarding women' uniqueness and untapped potential. (May)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fight Like a Girl on the Rick and Bubba show!, June 23, 2006
I heard Lisa on Rick and Bubba show yesterday... and WOW! She was absolutely amazing. I ordered the book in May, and after reading it, I was profoundly affected. Never before have I heard that women are answers not problems. When I heard Lisa say that, something went off inside of me. I never have articulated that sentiment, however, there truly is a "buzz" in our culture that says this is the case. I am a woman, and, after reading Lisa's book, I realize that I was created as an answer to a problem... and no longer do I think of myself as a problem!

I also loved what Lisa had to say about relationships. Being immersed in a culture where marriage seems to be a weak commitment that can easily be cut off at the first sign of conflict, I was so happy to hear that men and women were created as "two with one heart." I experienced so much healing and restoration as I realized how relationships were really supposed to work!

ALL WOMEN, young and old, need to get a hold of this and read it. You will never regret it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful, July 7, 2006
I bought several of these for my Women's Ministry ladies. I think that if your goal is to take your women out of the pews and into the world to minister this book is a necessity. It is a confidence builder. Fight Like a Girl teaches you it is ok to be feminine, but feminine doesn't have to imply mindless and weak. This woman, Lisa Bevere is a cancer surviver, very athletic, travels the world, has a huge ministry and is the only woman in her household. She does all of this in the guise of a godly woman. We can walk in grace and be strong and that is a great lesson. Also my 13 is ripping right through this. She takes it with her wherever she goes and many of the girls in her Uth group want to borrow it...has to be something there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fight Like a Girl, June 26, 2006
By
Lisa's new book Fight like a Girl changed my perspective on being a woman. I was raised to believe that in order to be strong as a woman, I needed to act like a man. This was a role I didn't understand or feel comfortable in. Lisa explains to us that is not a role we were meant to fill, that's why there are men! We are the most POWERFUL when we are being women. The enemy is not afraid of us when we are being weak in a position that is not ours to hold. Lisa talks about how some women don't like other women, how women view themselves as problems, looking at the difference between man and woman, and what position GOD has called us to hold. I have purchased this book for almost all of my friends and family. I would recommend this book for every woman.
