5.0 out of 5 stars and to think he's still just getting started--but watch where you buy this to get the bonus tracks you want
Elliott Yamin's rise to stardom continues to take him even higher with the release of this incredible album. He delves deep into each number to create a passionate set of songs that would touch the heart of any living being. 2.0 out of 5 stars Elliott's voice is still great, but....
OK..right off the bat, I'll admit that I am in my early fifties. I love Elliott Yamin's voice, and bought his first cd right when it was released. Although not a perfect cd, every song rang true...I never got the feeling that he was "going through the motions" when he sang. I was impressed by his songwriting, and loved the fact that he mixed it up, style-wise. He would...

Elliott Yamin's rise to stardom continues to take him even higher with the release of this incredible album. He delves deep into each number to create a passionate set of songs that would touch the heart of any living being. This album was not only worth the wait; it establishes him as someone who's still going places fast with his excellent writing and vocal prowess. Elliott takes each song and works it into a stunner; there's not a dud in the bunch. His voice is strong yet he is able to convey all the emotions of each word he ever sings; I'm very impressed. This guy's a winner! Watch where you buy this, however--different vendors offer different bonus tracks for this album; and I don't believe that the same bonus tracks are available on more than one website.

The album starts with "Let Love Be;" Elliott sings this out with a lot of energy and it makes a fine beginning track for this album. The beat is great and Elliott never lets go of a superfluous note! The musical arrangement enhances the quality of this opener, too. In addition, I also like ""Know Better;" Elliott remains squarely front and center--right where he belongs! "Know Better" is great music--and besides, since when did Elliott ever sound better? "Know Better" is powerful stuff.

The title track, "Fight For Love," has an excellent beat and the percussion really works well in the musical arrangement. Elliott handles complex tempo and key changes like a pro. "You" has Elliott in the spotlight as he laments his unrequited love; and "Can't Keep Loving You (From A Distance)" is absolutely perfect--this one's all THAT good.

"Don't Be Afraid" has Elliott singing to a woman he loves that she should take a chance and let herself fall in love with him; and this poignant ballad works well on many levels. The music perfectly complements Elliott's vocals; and that's pretty special. "You Say" is quite a strong tune; and listen for "Apart From Me." "Apart From Me" has a somewhat slower tempo with an awesome beat and Elliott's excellent diction enhances his performance all the more. "Apart From Me" is clearly a major highlight of this album.

"Cold Heart" has a melody that's infectiously catchy even though not all of these lyrics are exactly the happiest; I think "Cold Heart" is another great highlight of this CD and you're bound to enjoy this tune if you like Elliott's artistry. There's also "How Do I Know" which has Elliott singing another moving ballad and he never falters--that's exceptional. I love it!

"This Step Alone" has a fine musical arrangement and Elliott sings this without letting go of a single superfluous note; what a voice! The album ends strong with Elliott Yamin performing "Someday." "Someday" has beautiful key changes to enhance the melody and it leaves me wanting more. As I mentioned above, more is actually what you can have--depending on where you get this CD. The Amazon edition should give you a bonus track entitled "I Believe."

Fight for Love is another terrific CD from Elliott Yamin. I highly recommend this album for Elliott's fans; and it also makes a fine starter CD for people just discovering the artistry of Elliott Yamin.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid CD & Excellent voice, May 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fight for Love (Audio CD)
This album is solid and certainly shows growth from Elliott's debut disc. The title track/lead single is definitely radio-ready and has all the potential to become a sleeper hit like "Wait For You". It's especially good in stereo so you can hear the cool bass line.

As for rest of the album, the most interesting tracks are the upbeat ones:
-Let Love Be - a cool R&B ditty (kind of wish the whole album sounded like it)
-Know Better - a catchy soul/pop blend with mucho hit potential
-Don't Be Afraid - a smooth dance track that could have been penned by Ne-Yo himself
-Cold Heart - a real funky number which Elliott infuses with attitude

For me, the slower soft pop material tends to blend together, which is why after several listens, I find it hard to remember any line from Can't Keep On Loving You, How Do I Know, or This Step Alone.

The good thing is that Elliott has killer pipes, so even when a couple of songs start to drag, he lets out some ridiculous riff that gains my attention--and admiration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fight For Love a Guilty Pleasure, May 7, 2009
This review is from: Fight For Love (MP3 Download)
Listening to Fight For Love is hearing Elliott Yamin taking another big step in maturity and emerging as a singer and artist with a distinctive sound.

Let Love Be is a rhythmic romp that gets the CD off to a flying start. Know Better, one of my favorites is uptempo, but highlights Elliott's vocal chops, more than moving you towards the dance floor.

Fight For Love...it's a good message, a great fit for radio and Elliott is at his smooth R&B best, sultry, surprising and ultimately superb in style and technique. The chorus is easy for those of us wannabe's to sing along with.

I'd like to see Elliott do something a little more edgy, and you sense he's definitely moving in that direction. But I have nothing but high praise for this Indie artist who's choosing to do it "his way."

We need more talented singers like Elliott Yamin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait, April 30, 2009
This review is from: Fight For Love (MP3 Download)
It's been two years since his debut album but if "Fight for love" is any indication, the new one is worth the wait. I listened to other snippets from the new CD and seriously...Gorgeous. If he doesn't get a couple of mega hits from it I will be shocked. The production is 100% better than the last CD and the songs are way better showcases for Elliott's amazing voice and styling.

2.0 out of 5 stars Elliott's voice is still great, but...., August 31, 2009
This review is from: Fight for Love (Audio CD)
OK..right off the bat, I'll admit that I am in my early fifties. I love Elliott Yamin's voice, and bought his first cd right when it was released. Although not a perfect cd, every song rang true...I never got the feeling that he was "going through the motions" when he sang. I was impressed by his songwriting, and loved the fact that he mixed it up, style-wise. He would drop little "hints" of what was to come, in a way...a little scat singing at the end of a song here, a funky, driving groove there, an old-school soul song, a few contemporary R&B love songs. I couldnt' wait until his next cd.
I can't help but admit that I'm disappointed.
"Fight for Love" is more "polished," but more commercially contemporary. Elliott is a young man, so it is only natural he would want to record some contemporary R&B, but I don't think these songs showcase the versatility of his fantastic voice. Where is the jazz/blues/soul fusion that we all loved? Where are the vocals that made us stop what we were doing and really listen? Remember the jaw-dropping perfection of his AI performance of "Moody's Mood for Love," or the pared down, heartfelt cover of "Song For You?" Where is the promise of "Find a Way" and "Train Wreck" from his debut album? In my opinion, few of these new songs hold a candle to those, mostly because of the snap-clap synth thing. It makes each song sound like every other contemporary R&B song out there.
It could just be a generational thing..maybe I'm just not feeling this cd because of my age. I just felt like I was listening to slightly different versions of the same song when I listened to "Fight For Love."
Maybe on his next cd he will use more of his voice and less of the machine. Maybe he'll cut a "Songs for My Mother"-type tribute cd to make us purists (or old fogies) happy, and we'll hear the funky, bluesy scat-singin' INTERESTING young vocalist again!

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!!!! - Don't sleep on this one........, May 6, 2009
This review is from: Fight for Love (Audio CD)
Elliott Yamin was my choice for the american idol during season 5. I am so glad the world is getting another chance to hear from him. I knew he was awesome the first time I heard him sing in the idol auditions and I rooted for him the entire time. I was so disappointed when he lost, that I haven't even really watched the show since. Well it turns out he didn't need american idol after all. His first album was great and this one is even better. It is a classic at this point for me. All the tracks are awesome. His voice is so moving, soulful and just simply wonderful. And with 90% hearing loss in one of his ears, it's amazing how spot on his tone is. I can't believe at one point in his life he didn't think he was a good singer and that he could do this professionally. Well Elliott you are not a good singer, you are clearly one of the best I have ever heard. And I listen to all genres of music. Your voice is so sick, it's ridiculous. I have heard him sing live with just a guitar to back him and he is the real deal. This album should appeal to everyone. I love it from beginning to end, but I absolutely love "Know Better". I cannot stop listening to that one. I truly hope this album goes platinum for him. Elliott, I love you. You are and will always be my "American Idol". Please get this album. You will not be disappointed. I hope we get to hear many more from him.

5.0 out of 5 stars it's so worth it, May 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fight for Love (Audio CD)
His second effort, Fight For Love is another look into what is a very talented, yet underappreciated singer. AI connection aside this cd is all that and then some. Yes, his first one was off the hook. But this one is stronger in that he's writing more on the cd and you can feel the emotion and feeling each time he sings.

Each and every song on this cd could be a very solid release to radio in general. More than that though "Fight For Love" is showing Elliott at his best with a voice that's drenched in soul and depth. No song is the same as he delves through each one like a pro of many years in the music business. It has upbeat dance style songs, soulful slow and midtempo songs. He covers all bases with this release.

No question or debating about this one. It's more than worthy of your attention and many listens. It will get a lot of play on my ipod and my car as well.

I have listened to Fight For Love dozens of times, and it grows on you with each listen. The lead single on Elliott's sophomore release, Fight For Love, is a testament to the growing maturity and artistry of Elliott Yamin. The Fight For Love CD is due out May 5th, 2009, and it's packed with songs that you'll have on your personal playlist and be jammin' to for years to come.
