This show is exciting and fun! The cast is perfect, the scenery is breath-taking, and race aspect is not over the top or ridiculous. I love this show.

my gripe is the fake DRAMA ; too little time and too much "competition" to see ALASKA and have the trekkers SHOW and TELL more of one of AMERICA's last frontiers ... still , highly competent people chosen . and even in the "race" , competitors are often friends and drag each other out of trouble .
needs MORE of ALASKA . would love to see each crew chosen SHOW us different parts of ALASKA even if a time limit kept . AND i want to see what they PACK in those huge back packs . equipment , choices reasonings . they ARE experts ....

My family is enamored of the outdoors and the adventures associated with it. My 11-year old son is especially fond of this series - so much so that he watches the episodes over and over. Some people might enjoy nit-picking some of the "reality" aspects of the show, but hey, creating dramatic tension and stage-managing some elements in the show are unavoidable and generally make the show more exciting. The big thing is that the characters seem to be the real deal, and their struggles and triumphs are convincing and satisfying. Well done!

At first I was skeptical of the points system, but it really has added a good dimension. This is because none of the teams are overly invested about being uber tough guys. I was worried that one team would dominate and the show would become predictable.

I typically hate reality TV, but the producers have done an excellent job picking team members this season (not so much last season,) that are entertaining but not a caricature of reality TV morons. There were some genuinely irritating characters in 2013, not so this time. This series deserves more seasons, its a perfect combination of fair team play, in an appropriate scoring system, in an unbelievable Alaskan backdrop.

I have only one thing to add. I want to be a member of an "Ultra Light" team, as it annoys me to no end, to see ALL the teams packing way too much gear, and gear that is way too heavy. I have ultra light hiked through the Superior Hiking Trail, AT, and Kettle Moraine, to know you do not need the size of packs these guys are carrying. The 4lb tarp the mountaineers carry should be a 5oz cuben fiber tarp/ member. The 8lb shotgun bear protection, should by a 13 oz canister of bear spray. Make similar decisions of kit 8 more times, and you're carrying a pack that's 20lbs, not 50lbs. That would equate to wins... Ok, ill shut up now.

This is a great show. I like the excitement and challanges they face. I also like that even though it's competitive all the teams also look out for each other.

I happen to like survival type shows. I do not have cable just an antenna and DVR (so I don't have a cable bill). So through my Amazon prime membership, I can watch a few of my favorite shows that are not available over the air. And it is still cheaper than a monthly cable bill.
