4.0 out of 5 stars I read the book about Lithuanian Freedom Fighters, December 7, 2009
This review is from: Fighters for Freedom (Unbound)
I took the book out of my local library and read it. What is so compelling is the the fact that this is a personal account of events which are scarcely known to most people. Therefore, the style of writing is unpolished, but at the same time absolutely riveting. it is hard to imagine a small people carrying on a fight against an all-powerful monolithic nation - the Soviet Union. Abandoned by the western nations for the most part, Lithuania was left to swing in the breeze. With the intelligence compromised by Kim Philby, it is surprising, and a tribute to the resolve and strength of this people, that the partisan movement was able to last well into the 1950's.
I would read it again.
The film "Vienu Vieni" (2004) is based on the book.
