Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-5--This straightforward biography outlines the women's rights activist's life from childhood and schooling to speechmaker and author. Weidt clearly explains Anthony's involvement with the Daughters of Temperance and how her interests helped her realize that women's suffrage was the solution to creating legitimate equal status for women. The book reads like a story and includes no documentation. Still, youngsters will gain an understanding of the history of the period and of the social position of women. Black-and-white sketches break up the somewhat dry text.--Rita Soltan, Oakland University, Rochester, MI

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Biography About Susan B. Anthony, December 17, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Fighting for Equal Rights: A Story about Susan B. Anthony (Creative Minds Biography) (Paperback)
In the year 1820, Susan B. Anthony was born into a home with a Quaker Father, and a Baptist Mother. Her Father, being a Quaker, was a free thinker, and thought it only fair that women have a say in what goes on in the world. Hence, Susan was brought up always saying what was on her mind, which often rubbed people - especially non-Quaker men - the wrong way. As years passed, Susan held many different jobs that were sometimes unheard of for a woman - a teacher, a newspaperwoman. However, as time went by, Susan realized that her true passion was activism, and in the end, she worked to give women the right to vote, and to end slavery. This is her story.

I had heard of Susan B. Anthony many times in History class when I was about 10-years-old, but since each History book gave such a brief description of her efforts, I never learned much about her. That's why finding Maryann N. Weidt's FIGHTING FOR EQUAL RIGHTS was like finding a treasure for me. The wonderful descriptions about Susan's work in activism brought the story to life, and truly made you realize just how much of an impact Susan had on the world today. This is a marvelous biography for all!
