5.0 out of 5 stars not too shabby
the first time i listened i thought "eh, it's ok...nothin special though." but with every listen i like it more and more. my favorite song on it is "Just to Please You"

so i make no promises that you'll like it, but if you do happen to pick it up and aren't too impressed with it on the first listen, don't just give up on it...give it a couple more tries

2.0 out of 5 stars Only OK
When I first heard the song "Back To You" I fell in love. I loved everything about the song, the lyrics, the message, the singer, the melody, I give the song five stars. However when I heard the rest of the album, my interest in the band fell apart.

Disclaimer: I'm not a hard rock fan.

Since I don't like hard, or grunge rock, I didn't like the album...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Debut from a Promising New Band., November 13, 2006
By
This review is from: Fighting Instinct (Audio CD)
Every once in awhile, a new band comes along that deserves attention. Fighting Instinct is one of those bands.

With the release of their self-titled debut on Gotee Records, Fighting Instinct is off the an excellent start. The trio of singer/guitarist/songwriter TJ Harris, bassist Jason Weekly and drummer Dallas Farmer draw heavily upon Classic Rock influences such as Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd with a hint of Boston as well as later alternative bands like Pearl Jam and Christian bands along the likes of Third Day, Building 429 and Kutless.

Every track on this CD displays solid melodic rock hooks as well as meaningful lyrics that are strongly rooted in the band's Christian faith. Most of the songs have lyrics that deal with the fact that we as individuals are indeed lost without a savior and that Christ is ultimately the only way to salvation. There is also one genuine Praise and Worship piece on the album as heard in the closing track "Just To Please You". The musicianship within this band is extremely tight as evidenced in the opening track "I Found Forever", "Light My Way", "Back To You", "My Heart Cries Out" and "All Or Nothing".

As mentioned above, this a very strong debut from this band. Here's hoping that Fighting Instinct will stick around for many more years to come. With this CD, they have proven already to be a great promising band. If they keep at it, they definitely have to potential of growing to even greater status.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whoever said Christian influenced rock wasn't cool anyway?, November 27, 2006
This review is from: Fighting Instinct (Audio CD)
Sadly this CD will be overlooked and shoved to the bottom of every radio station's playlist because it falls under the Christian rock tag,and shame on every program director for not giving this a listen for that reason, you guys are so suppose to be the first to expose us to new bands on the edge of cracking the charts and opening up for major air play.

If you like Saliva, Foo Fighters , Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd or Shinedown this CD will blow you away. It is full of loud and proud US HOME GROWN ROCK MUSIC.

I caught the track I Found Forever on WDHA in New Jersey, thank you boys for playing it and giving me A&R info to track this CD down. What a great rocking track to lead off this CD, Crush , Light My Way, and Back To You are more great follow up tracks, strong vocals and harmonies make these young men stand out, plus some good old loud guitar just give this entire Cd a great sound. Yes there are a couple of ballads for the girls and some more personal lyrics with God and Christ in mind, and girls and love and heartbreak.

So what, does every body have to curse to sound cool, no it just has to sound great when you turn up the volume and your friends say, hey, who are these guys, this is great!

I hope this CD finds it's way into your CD player, just a simple thank you by email would be nice and then turn someone else on to this outstanding CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fighting Instinct Packs a Punch, July 18, 2006

This review is from: Fighting Instinct (Audio CD)
When I hear a new band, I listen to see what other bands that they may sound like, only as a point of reference. Immediately I thought of Trapt's first album. Unlike Trapt though, Fighting Instinct infuse nice lead guitar rifts throughout this selection of finely written material. I took me a couple of listens before I could tell that this was Christian Rock, which I have absolutely no problem with. I was always a huge fan of PFR. I give Fighting Instinct 4 stars for a very nice debut album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fresh Meal in a sea of Chain Restaurants, July 4, 2006

This is a great new band with strong vocals, playful but creative hooks throughout, and intelligent writing. This North Carolina based trio has really come up with some fresh stuff to listen to, with a range of vocals, music and lyrics that can speak to a lot of people, and I think this will give them survivability and allow them to grow and change with age like fine wine if listeners dont try to buttonhole them. Definitely worth a close listen. I'm already anticipating their new album to see where it goes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds Like Old Rock, July 12, 2010

We've had this CD for several years, it has remained a consistant favorite in hour home. It's a terrible loss that these songs have not been on christian radio...and secular radio; it's that good. They are great songs!! Our family is made up of a tween, a teen ager, and then of course us old fogies who love the oldies. We all love listening to this CD. It has a love song and moving songs about our relationship with God. Don't miss out!

Disclaimer: I'm not a hard rock fan.

Since I don't like hard, or grunge rock, I didn't like the album. I thought all of the songs except for "Back To You", were only OK, nothing to write home about, nothing original or outstanding. Just OK. Nothing wrong with OK, but hey, it isn't five-star either. So get "Back To You", skip the rest of the album, and save yourself 45 minutes, and ten bucks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just Discovered This Band, December 20, 2007
By
This review is from: Fighting Instinct (Audio CD)
After reading some of these reviews I thought I may have a bit of a listen to this band, so I bought the CD.

I must say I was not dissappointed. They absolutely ROCK!! Why these guys havn't been picked up on the Radio and such is beyond me. They have a great sound and a great message as well. I havn't heard a band like this since the days of Guardian. (Guardian, what an awesome band, if only there were more bands like them).

But if you want to listen to some good hard Rock and have your ears filled with some serious guitar licks, then this is the CD for you. I recommend this CD to anyone who misses some good old fashioned Rock!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Average, July 24, 2006
This review is from: Fighting Instinct (Audio CD)
The debut cd from Fighting Instinct is nothing special but worth a listen. The first release I Found Forever is one of the best songs of 2006. You Don't Know is good and radio worthy as well. The other tracks aren't bad, and a few are good but this is nothing mind blowing. The booklet sucked though, it did have song lyrics but the pictures were just kids playing around.
