About the Author
Michael Steele is a Distinguished Professor of English at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1967 and received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Michigan State. He has coached cross country, football, and handball in college. He was at one time in charge of Pacific University's linebackers and special teams. Presently, he is the Northwest Regional Handball Commissioner for intercollegiate handball. His biography on Knute Rockne was published in 1983, and he served as a script consultant for a feature movie on the life of George Gipp. His teaching and writing interests are Victorian literature, Holocaust literature and composition, with a special approach to freshman composition through writing about sports.
