5.0 out of 5 stars Fighting Starlight, April 1, 2002

Benton Falls is the reason I love music. They create a perfect blend of heart and angst and deliver it with a melodic punch that makes you want to not just sing along - but shout along. Each song turns into a story with rythm that drives home a chorus so personal and revealing, its shocking and utterly familiar. Lead be one of the strongest voices Ive heard, Benton Falls sails seamlessly through waves of melencholic bliss and reflection to moments of powerful verses and might to conclusions tears come from. In a style refreshingly simple, they get to the roots of what an emo band plays for, and reasons most of us live for.

this CD is without a doubt the best and most amazing thing that has ever been recorded.
it will submerge you into an "under-consciousness" world of deepest and most genuine emotions, breathtaking guitar work and overall perfection.
for fans of TimeSpentDriving, Appleseed Cast, Penfold, early Thursday, Outsmarting Simon..

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Creative, November 24, 2004
By
Jason Persson (Littleton, Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fighting Starlight (Audio CD)
One of the most creative albums i've heard, Fighting Starlight is truly a great album. Similiar to Brandtson, which i also recommend you to buy (Fallen Star Collection) Every single song on this cd is amazing, never will you have to skip a track to get to a good song, they are all good. You will be surprised at the first listen of how good Benton Falls really is, but once you repeatedly listen to it, you will get used to the greatness. Must get if you are anything similar to an emo fan, or if you are an obsessive emo fan. Even if you are a country fan, you will still love this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album..., October 25, 2007
This review is from: Fighting Starlight (Audio CD)
I saw these guys play live once and was inspired to buy this album... it was a really soulfull show, and the album proved to have a depth rarely seen, as well...
I'm not a huge "emo" fan... but this is a superb album... it is definitely "emo" in the best sense... at times I felt submerged in emotion... but the music is well written, the lyrics thoughtful, and the execution perfect...
definitely worth checking out

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Outstaning Achievement for Deep Elm, January 15, 2002
This review is from: Fighting Starlight (Audio CD)
Benton Falls as well as the whole Deep Elm label continues to impress me. Deep Elm had the vision and foreight to sign this band before they were snatched up by a larger label. Deep Elm has released a number of great albums by The Appleseed Cast and Brandston, however this album equals or exceeds these. Benton Falls proves its credibilty right from the start, with deft guitar work and varying tempos. The vocals also set this apart from average emo bands. The soft subtle vocals erupt into anguished isolated screams. This quality of emo music only succeeds if the artist knows proper timing and pitch. Pulling this off is a thing of beauty, something that adds the emotional element lacking in other genres. The lyrics are also first rate as well. Decidely un-punk in approach, it nonetheless deals with the gographic and cultural isolation that come with living in a small town. They don't rebel against authority and leadership, but rather the closemindedness of the people around them. They also craft beautiful songs about realationships and weave interesting ancedotes into their stories. The instrumentation is often bare, but leaves the listener happy. The bare instrumentation creates the mood of isolation and sadness that the lyrics describe. Often, repetitious guitars and montonous drum patterns serve as a powerful backdrop. One would think that this type of music my start to sound repetative and boring after few songs, but it doesn't. The vocal range and slight tempo changes add enough variety to keep things interesting. Fans of Pedro the Lion, DCFC and more lo-fi emo bands will appreciate the sincerity and quality of this cd.
