This is not only one of the best unit histories I have read, but it is also a living history of the 451st Bombardment Group (H) - a group that operated B-24s as part of the 15th Air force. Everything anyone would want to know about the unit is here. The book starts (after numerous forwards and tributes) with a 46 page unit history; as I write it, this sounds somewhat short, but it's not - the text is relatively small and the pages are large. This is followed by 105 pages of first person accounts. This section is simply amazing!!! There are usually 1-2 stories per page, each by a different person that cover all aspects of experiences with the unit. Next comes a listing of all of the individuals who were killed during the war and those who have died since. My 2000 edition also includes an updated list of men who had passed on since the original 1990 printing. Then comes a mission diary (just a listing) followed by a roster of all of the B-24s that served in the unit and all known information about them; pictures are included for about half of the planes. Finally there is a unit roster and photo album. I should also add that while the "photo album" is nice, there are tons and tons of photos throughout the text.

I can't say enough about this book. Air devotees, Historians and anyone remotely connected with the 451st will want a copy.

This is a very good book , scarce now like a lot of others dealing with Bomber Group histories......
