loved this book!,

This review is from: 52 Fights: A Newlywed's Confession (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a really fun read! I laughed hard enough to snort in several places - but also kept thinking to myself, "I'm SO making my husband read this!" Sometimes I related to the author and sometimes to her husband, but either way, I could get an idea of what "the other side" could POSSIBLY be thinking in those lonely moments in the first year of marriage when you start encountering your differences and disagreements and worrying if they are precursors to doom or just normal life. It was comforting to hear others are going through the same thing. I bought a couple copies for friends getting married this summer - way more fun, and more useful, than the edible undies or other dumb shower gifts that probably get shoved in a drawer and never used!!

FABULOUS! Could be a great movie...,

I love the way Jennifer writes. She is incredibly candid and has a wit that makes even the most mundane of fights seem incredibly humorous. I could totally see her tales of newlywed stress becoming the basis of a movie. Her "characters" are so incredibly vivid - obviously because they are not fictional. Jennifer lends a voice to all of us who have wondered why we ever decided to take that plunge with this one-time stranger and sometimes irritant whom we love more than anyone else. This is the first of many wonderful things we will see from this author - remember her name.

Funny Anecdotes, Fabulous Advice,
This review is from: 52 Fights: A Newlywed's Confession (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is a fabulous read! Each chapter begins with a personal anecdote and is followed by practical feedback, advice and humor that all tie back to the topic. It isn't preachy - rather it is a presentation of what worked for this couple - the "ah ha" moments in the marriage. It is funny, witty and normalizing in that you realize you aren't alone in figuring out yourself, your partner, your in-laws, and your marriage. Jennifer brings to light that we all come from different backgrounds and have different expectations - hence the need for understanding, compassion and compromise! I would highly recommend this book! I can't wait for her next book of confessions!

Ho Hum .... Humorless,
This review is from: 52 Fights: A Newlywed's Confession (Mass Market Paperback)
I specifically got this book because I thought it was a book of humor and it received good reviews from other readers. I personally have been married for six (6) years so I really thought this book would be completely hiliarious. Sadly, I was wrong. Honestly the wife comes off as nothing more than a boring doormat. This is suppose to be a book about all the fights that all married couple has during the first yearof marriage but reads more like how to keep your true feelings bottled up and not cause unneeded conflict while trying to keep your arguments constructive. In a word - A poorly written Self Help Book. It would have been a saving grace had it been funny and/or helpful.

I bought this book after reading from[...]that it was an awesome book. It has small anecdotes about every day married life written by the wife. It kept me entertained for awhile but by the middle I was already skimming through it. It had some good points but after I was done, I quickly donated it to the local library.

Funny and warm. I devoured this one on my daily train commute, even walking through the subway station. The short chapters make for mini anecdotes that will amuse you with the author's humanity. The opposites-attract theme runs strong. Her husband must be some guy to refrain from censoring out half of what could be embarrassing moments if the author's writing weren't so gentle and even-handed on her own shortcomings. It is not a lecture, but one couple's journey as they begin their marriage. Also, while this book is not about establishing a Christian marriage so much as a foundation of teamwork, it will not offend the religious, as the author 1) states that the couple chooses not live together before marriage and 2) spends one chapter on how they reached common ground on donating faithfully to the Catholic Church. Highly recommended for newlyweds and brides-to-be.

An entertaining read, something that I would give as a gift,
This review is from: 52 Fights: A Newlywed's Confession (Mass Market Paperback)
This is an entertaining book that I would recommend to my newlywed friends, as well as someone who wants a fun read at the beach. In it,Jennifer Patterson describes the issues that newlyweds go through over the first year, when the honeymoon is over and the realities of two people who love each other, yet have certain differences in their way of living life ( Jennifer, the introvert, slightly non-traditional writer Vs. Matt, the extroverted, somewhat traditonally minded lawyer)that have to be addreased in allowing their marriage to work. Whether it be dealing with the demands that her husband's job puts upon her, trying to work out issues with the extended family that both Matt and Jennifer bring to their marriage, or in the craziness that goes into trying to renovate a home, Jennifer Patterson writes it in an entertaining manner that makes for easy reading.
