4.0 out of 5 stars Very Inspiring!, October 29, 2007
By
A reader (Mountain View, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Figure Book (The Figure Book : The Figure Competition Training Guide, 1) (Paperback)
When I first received this book, I had a hard time really making sense of it. At the same time, I purchased a copy of the Figure Live DVD, also by the Figure Coach. After I watched the DVD, the book started to make a lot more sense and became very inspiring for me.

I had read about figure contests in various physique magazines and watched one live show from the audience. However, the combination of the Figure Live DVD and this book gave me much more insight into what's involved in preparing for and competing in a figure contest. Both are presented from a well-informed and also very encouraging perspective for those considering a figure contest. They present a lot of ideas about why it's worth doing, which take the material to the level of being inspiring.

The main reasons I rated this book four and not five stars were the high price and the quality of the book design. I can understand the high price because the potential audience for this book is probably small relative to the production costs. The strength of the book design is the quality of the pictures but the font choices and placement are a little uneven.

That said, I found the materials quite valuable and have already ordered additional items from the Figure Coach.

1.0 out of 5 stars overpriced, not enough info, August 27, 2009
This review is from: The Figure Book (The Figure Book : The Figure Competition Training Guide, 1) (Paperback)
This book is highly overpriced for the quality of information that you get from it. You'd be better off getting information from a reputable figure coach like Cathy Savage.

The Figure Book teaches you how to prepare for and successfully compete in a Figure Competition. It provides you a complete year's plan of action to be a successful competitor. A great deal of coverage is given to all of your mandatory poses, front pose, side pose, back pose and the front side pose disclosing the T stance for the best look in the line up. Learn how to separate your posing style from the rest of the pack.

Several competition sample diets are provided that will melt the fat off and still maintain your muscle mass. How to peak for your show is covered. Learning to peak for a show is an art and this book gives you the tips to do so. The contest countdown will tell you what to do in the last days before you compete so you will look and do your very best. And lastly if you do not want to get caught short the day of your show, a complete list of what to bring to your competition is given so you are not missing anything you will need to have a successful day at your competition, That information is invaluable so you are not caught short and are missing something key the day of your competition.
