This review is from: Figure Of Eight (MP3 Download)
"Figure of Eight" is a very poetic and melodic song that has a distinct pop music tone. With the opening chords and lyrics, listeners have an idea that this will be a good song, especially those who enjoy and lean toward songs that fall a little under three minutes. And one other interesting aspect of the song is that it shares the same title of a Paul McCartney composition. However, although David Mead's song is not one of the same, what the two may definitely share is the very Beatle-like similarities that progress throughout the song from the basic instrumentation to the vocal renderings; other comparisons arise as one continues to listen from the obvious, Neil Finn, Billy Joel, Glenn Tilbrook, a touch of 70s pop rock of Elton John, 10cc and ELO, to more recent sounds, Fountains of Wayne, Mike Viola, and several others. But despite the similarities, "Figure of Eight" has a unique quality that transcends the influences because of the creative lyrics that provide an enjoyable musical experience while listening to the song. Indeed, it is undeniable, but it is one of those songs that may have listeners wanting to listen to it more than once. |
