If you love realistic dolls, this book is worth every penny. Lisa creates magic with wire, fabric, needles & thread.
The detailed chapter showing how she creates her work is just amazing.

The book was amazingly detailed giving tips on ways to make the dolls extremely life like. It also shows how to biuld them from the ground up. It's simply amazing.

The dolls shown in this fantastic book are unsurpassed works of art. It is impossible to believe that this artist can achieve such fabulous creations in fabric. The figures are so realistic, one would swear that they were living people. Lisa Lichtenfels is the master of her craft. Her creations are true art on a par with any of the great masters' works. This is a book that you will look at again and again, and marvel at the exquisite works of art she has created. My only regret is that I will never be able to own one of her creations.

Lisa Lichtenfels is an unbelievable artist. Who knew the realism that could come from dolls made from "pantyhose"?

I would love a more detailed tutorial for the "absolute clueless beginner" but the step-by-step process that's included in this magnificent read, will blow your mind.

You don't have to be a doll collector to appreciate the art dolls created by Lisa Lichtenfels. Her dolls are more like people than anything else. The work she does with needle and thread, batting, wire and nylons is phenomenal. If you are a doll artist, then this is the book to take you to the next level in doll artistry. I would highly recommend this book for the art collector, doll collector as well as doll makers who want to become doll artists like Lisa.

Lisa Lichtenfels is awesome! Her sculptures are so absolutely breath taking even on paper. I keep this book on display on a shelf and even the non doll and art lovers can't help but notice it and comment on the beautiful photos.

The step by step and multiple angle photos on the figures really appealed to me. This book is more wonderful than I thought it could be. I see something new each time I look at it.

Included in the 160 pages is the Gallery with 37 stunning pictures of different dolls made by Lisa.There is also a "Progress of a Figure" section complete with illustrations showing you how to make a Figure.
Then comes the "Evolution in Fabric" which is a Gallery including many more pictures of Lisa's work over the years.

Great book for the Coffee Table !

I've been admiring photos of Lisa Lichtenfels' work for a good few years. Now and then a photo will turn up in this or that doll magazine, of a human or demihuman figure so realistic, so luminous, so detailed, it is hard to believe that it's a "cloth doll" over an "armature."

Ms. Lichtenfels' art falls into the category of "if you have to ask how much, you can't afford it." So for most of us, the occasional glimpse of a photo would be all we could afford. When Reverie came out with this book, I knew I would one day have to get a copy -- and it does not disappoint.

The photos are many and beautiful. The showcased characters are shown in several views, with engaging background text by Lisa. The preface, by the late John Darcy Noble, is both enjoyable to read and, as it should be, illustrative of the artist.

This is probably a good time to point out that most of the figures are nudes. They are appropriate nudes, and they come in an astonishing diversity, and Ms. Lichtenfels' power to create beautiful and interesting nude figures is probably a large part of her appeal. But if you do not like nudes in general, be forewarned.

If you have not seen Lisa Lichtenfels' work before, and you are reading online with a few minutes to spare, Google her name and see what you think.

The latter parts of the book include "The Progress of a Work," a detailed segment showing exactly what's under the skin of these fascinating figures. She truly constructs a realistic skeleton and sketches out her plans for the body with surgical precision.

I found the last main section, "Evolution in Fabric," to be a bit spooky. Many of her earlier figures had that combination of whimsy and surreality that can unsettle the sensitive soul. Nothing nasty, you understand -- just art on the border of faerie, perhaps, reality on the edge of dream. The many characters and their settings and stories are certainly a significant part of the story, though, and I am so glad that this section is here.

Finally, the book closes with an Afterword by publisher Krystyna Poray Goddu.

This book is a keeper.

Amazingly beautiful art work. I am also a doll artist and to reach this expertise in sculpting fabric is truly inspiring. A book to have and to treasure.

Lisa Lichtenfels, has for many years wowed the world of artist dolls. This book is no less than a small example of her creative genius. You must continue to remind yourself that these creations are basically stuffed pantyhose! Lisa included a step by step photographed tutorial of the creation of one of her masterpieces. She is truly a gifted artist in this area of art.
