This is certainly a good book. Clear, amply illustrated, and well done. The contents of this book and four others (oils, acrylics, watercolors, portraits) are contained together in the author's massive book: The Complete Painting Course: A Guide to Techniques in Oils, Watercolors and Acrylics. If I were to recommend a single purchase for the beginning painter, it would be the more comprehensive edition.

I spend most of my time painting figural painting. As a new painter , I keep this book will be next to me. I find this book very helpful. It seems that there aren't many ( if any) figural oil painting books that are current. One must go back and buy vintage books .Luckily, these vintage painting books are wonderful!
I would highly recommend this book if you are working on figural painting or drawing.
