Ok so last year I bought the Kinkade Crystal Tabletop Christmas Tree and ended up returning it for poor quality. This year I thought that the reviews for this snowman sound promising and bought it, but it doesn't come even close in quality to what's pictured here, so I feel like this review is necessary.
First of all the glass is really thick, even though in the picture it looks very fine and elegant. No. It's thick. If you zoom in on the picture you can kind of see like a blurry edge on the inside of the glass (about a quarter of an inch thick) - yeah that's where the actual glass ends. It's not the nice thin edge that's clearly seen in the picture..it's the one that they tried to blur so you can't see how thick the glass is. This bothers me because it makes the figurine look cheap and hefty, not fine and expensive.
Next, the nice shiny gloves and scarf are nothing but dark plastic silver paint. Definitely not as shiny. I'm not sure what kind of material I was expecting but it was definitely not silver paint. Maybe at least silver paint with some glitter? But we don't get that here.
The train does make sound when it moves around and the lights are dim, as someone else mentioned, and there's no way to turn the lights on without the train moving which is too bad. I suppose if it had some kind of music it can cover the train hum.
I'm not really sure why I am giving it 2 stars. I guess I like the idea (just not so much the way it was executed). It's also bigger than I expected so I guess we get quantity over quality. I also like that it has the option to be plugged in an outlet or work on batteries.
Similarly if you are buying the Crystal Tree that I mentioned the glass is REALLY THICK, so I would recommend it even less than this snowman, because in the case of the tree you can barely see the inside from the ugly thick glass.
